Sotomayor confirmed 68 to 31

The U.S. Supreme Court has a new Justice.

Sonia Sotomayor, 55, has just been confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 68 to 31.

Again, Sotomayor wasn't on the short list of progressive choices - but because we're talking about a Senate confirmation here, her Senate opposition was from the right. The Senate vote was largely among party lines.
