Former Sen. Paula Hawkins, a Republican from Florida, died yesterday at the age of 82.Hawkins was elected in the GOP wave of 1980 and built a reputation as an ultraconservative (at least by '80s standards). This culminated in her anti-music crusade of the mid-'80s.
Hawkins was defeated handily by Bob Graham in 1986.
