Here's what Donald Trump said recently about confiscating guns from people: "I like taking the guns early. ... Go through due process second."
Imagine if you can what the reaction would be if Barack Obama had said that. But Trump said it, and the response has been total silence from the right-wing media.
There's a reason I said that even if an assault weapon ban was enacted, it would be hard to seize guns from law-abiding people who already have them. It's because we're supposed to have a system built on due process.
A federal court recently ruled that assault weapons are not protected as arms under the Second Amendment, because they are strictly instruments of war. Nowhere did the ruling say that due process didn't apply. The whole point of due process is that it applies. Due process wouldn't be due process if it didn't.
