Maria cussed ('Sesame Street' Wednesday)

It's always a barrel of laughs when a character on a children's TV show cusses.

Back in 1975, 'Sesame Street' had a week-long series of episodes in which several cast members visited New Mexico. I found the scenes from this trip on YouTube, and I've been listening to them as I process the photos from my recent New Mexico trip. But in this clip, I heard something rather interesting...

Fast-forward to about 7:48. This is while the Count kept making expensive long-distance phone calls from Sesame Street to New Mexico. As Maria storms out of the house in her bell bottoms, we hear her muttering, "Dammit!" And there's some little kid standing right there too.

'Sesame Street' ruled back in my day (unlike today).

Your friends and family are drowning in rage and despair, and it's the media's fault

Many of you have family and friends who have fallen into thrashing mania and misery because of the establishment media's militant support of the fascist "new normal."

One of the biggest tragedies in America – perhaps the world – is the fact that hordes of people have fallen under the fascist media's spell. Many more have become a shell of their former selves because the scuzz-a-luzz media has maliciously destroyed their livelihoods by encouraging lockdowns and lockdown culture.

I've been skeptical of media hype since I was a teenager, and I've been reluctant to trust media talking points without more reliable verification. In the past 2 years, however, the media has driven people you once knew into an unquestioning stupor marked by fits of rage against dissidents.

Some with a lot of time on their hands spend all their days watching garbage disguised as "news" on TV or the Internet. They will defend to their death their sources of information, calling any commentator or average person who dissents a conspiracy theorist – often both a left-wing conspiracy theorist and a right-wing conspiracy theorist in the same conversation. It doesn't matter how strong the dissenting source's credentials are. They can be a doctor, teacher, or lawyer, and they'll still be equated with the meme of the shirtless old man scowling.

Your friends and family who have been lost to the media will start arguments with you. But when you start to counter with facts, logic, and science, they will suddenly announce that they're done arguing. Sometime later, they'll bring up the same topic again, and the cycle will repeat.

One of their favorite accusations is that you sit at the computer all day looking at conspiracy websites. However, they do exactly that, except with them it's often TV instead of Internet. This is while the media has its own ridiculous conspiracy theories, like when they claim that states have deliberately undercounted COVID deaths just so they could lift restrictions.

These folks weren't as hostile and argumentative before. They didn't intentionally pick fights with dissidents like they do now. They didn't use to think everyone else – let alone the people closest to them – was an enemy. But now everybody is. They think the cashier at IGA, the 5-year-old down the street, their doctor, and everybody else are all enemies.

We can't always blame those who have begun thinking this way. If you were subjected to the totalitarian propaganda machine every waking moment, the same might happen to you. But it's sad to see so many people spending their lives thrashing about over media hype and lies.

Then there's the many people who don't lap it up but have found their livelihoods and social activities ruined because of policies the media maliciously cheered. They now lead lives of sadness, and nobody is around to comfort them.

All of this is a tragedy, and it was avoidable.

There must be some accountability for the media. There's got to be some smart lawyers who can figure out a way to make media outlets pay stiff civil penalties for their deliberate journalistic malpractice.

Turn off the TV. Read a book. Go to the store. Live.

Drawing the line

All over America and around the world, people have fought for justice. If one is innocent of a crime, judges and juries must acquit. If one is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, a conviction must result. I am not in a position to weigh the facts of every case, and I can only hope jurors and judges reach the right verdict. This blog entry is not a commentary on the outcome of a particular case, regardless of how we may feel about it. There is another issue at play that poses a major threat to Americans' civil liberties, and I want to make sure everyone is warned of it, so they're not caught off guard.

If you can endure even one second of the media's coverage of major news events lately, you may have noticed a lot of media attention focused on whether a defendant crossed a state line. I don't think the media was desperately trying to convict the defendant. Rather, I think the media is more interested in the long game of preparing us for a looming "papers please" dystopia.

What is the significance of state lines? Some state lines aren't even based on visible features but were arbitrarily mapped out. Why would lines that are largely invisible determine a defendant's guilt or innocence? The media cares about state lines because it lays the groundwork for the day when crossing a state line will require all of us to submit papers or undergo a search.

There's pretty convincing evidence that this is their goal. It was happening already during the full lockdowns last year. There were orders prohibiting or limiting interstate travel even into this year. There were even checkpoints between states. I heard from family of a checkpoint between Ohio and Indiana. New Mexico decreed that state parks were closed to out-of-state residents. Albuquerque's bus system was open only to New Mexico residents, and it even checked passengers' ID's. Even federal orders on things like masks refer only to interstate travel.

The priority of our pundit class is a permanent police state. The state line obsession encourages the public to accept limits on interstate movement.

I'm kind of big on all this civil liberties business, you know.

Bill would require social media sites to verify your identity

I had no idea this was 1998.

As Big Tech book-burning continues unabated, it does of course have its enablers in Congress. Among them is Rep. John Curtis (R-Utah), who is floating a draft plan to require social media websites to verify users' identity.

This will gut the anonymity vital for many users. Anonymity isn't just for right-wing churches and the Chinese Communist Party flooding newspaper comment sections with gobs of sockpuppets. Anonymity is also important for people who seriously discuss sensitive topics. It also protects those who blow the whistle on government or corporate scandals. And it protects other folks who may desire extra privacy.

Under Curtis's proposal, people would be prevented from creating accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, or any similar site from making an account unless they submit identification. It's a "papers please" law for the Internet.

Furthermore, these websites would be required to report users to the Federal Trade Commission if they are suspected of using phony ID's. The FTC would be required to submit these reports to the Department of Justice.

America isn't the only land were there are proposals like this. The dictatorship in Australia has a similar plan.

It's like the Communications Decency Act, Real ID, the Patriot Act, the Social Credit System, and vaccine passports all rolled into one.

Fauci questioned over puppy experiments

Dr. Anthony Fauci has become the face of America's botched pandemic response and now serves as President Biden's chief medical adviser. Now a letter from members of Congress is demanding answers from Fauci over unspeakably cruel experiments on puppies.

The letter is from a bipartisan group of House members - but mostly Republicans, because the Democrats are becoming not only the party of child abuse but also of cruelty to animals. This comes after the White Coat Waste Project - the nonprofit that found U.S. taxpayer dollars were funding the Wuhan Institute of Virology - have exposed experiments that infected numerous puppies with dangerous parasites.

The White Coat Waste Project said 44 beagle puppies were abused in a lab in Tunisia, and some even had their vocal cords removed so barking wouldn't upset scientists there. Under Fauci, the NIH sent a huge sum of American taxpayer money to the lab for these experiments.

There is no justification whatsoever for this cruelty, and even the FDA said it was not necessary.

We live in an era in which so-called conspiracy theories are actually spoilers. Remember "America is fast becoming a police state"?

New Mexico governor pays $150K in crotch grabbing incident

It's nice to know that the Governor of New Mexico is a complete idiot.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, is known for her ranting harangues and giving New Mexico one of the worst responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. It turns out that a former campaign spokesman accused Lujan Grisham of a bizarre incident at a campaign staff meeting. According to this allegation, Lujan Grisham dumped water all over the man's crotch and then grabbed his crotch during the meeting.

Now Lujan Grisham has settled the resulting harassment claim for $150,000.

Lujan Grisham tried to hide this payment by making it appear on campaign finance reports to be ordinary legal expenses.

What a beezweezer.

CCP joins War on Halloween

The Religious Right used to fight against Halloween year after year. These pushy fanatics used to cancel Halloween in schools all over America. In some schools, Halloween never returned.

But now we're facing new enemy combatants in this War on Halloween. The stated reason is not COVID-19, nor is it under the same guise as the battles of previous decades. Rather, it seems to be simply...because.

Schools in Seattle; East Lansing and Grand Ledge, Michigan; and Princeton, New Jersey, recently decided to cancel all Halloween festivities. They say Halloween events create too much noise. They say Halloween is too exciting, and that this impedes the learning environment. They say canceling Halloween will somehow increase attendance. They point out that not everyone celebrates Halloween - which is true, but there's also a lot of people who don't celebrate other events. When I was in school, I had no interest in school sports or dances, but I didn't ask for these events to be canceled. When I was a high school junior, a school pal said he did not celebrate Thanksgiving. We all respected that and moved on. The school did not cancel the holiday. School officials also say Halloween wreaks havoc on people with food allergies. I'm very sensitive to a wide variety of foods, but I wouldn't dream of abolishing Halloween because of it.

Halloween doesn't violate the spirit of inclusion or the mission of education any more than most other things that schools do - and take pride in.

At the New Jersey school, officials reversed their decision to ban Halloween, but schools elsewhere are doubling down. One is replacing Halloween with "thematic units of study about the fall." There are even rumblings that cities might ban Halloween even outside of school.

This has the Chinese Communist Party's fingerprints all over it. It has become clear since last year that our overlords either support the CCP outright or are willing to do its bidding. In addition to executing the War on Halloween, they have one thing in common with the right-wing religious zealots who have fought us in the past: They are not patriots. Appeasing a hostile foreign dictatorship is not what I call patriotism. We can also abandon any pretense that our rulers are liberal. Liberal Democrats such as George McGovern and Walter Mondale were staunchly opposed to authoritarian regimes, including those that claimed to be communist.

If the CCP wanted to intentionally gunk up our society, an effective way to do it would be to advance the War on Halloween. To the CCP, this is dynamite.

The idea that our "leaders" are vanguards of liberality is a complete joke. Their totalitarian, selfish policies lately strongly resemble juche - North Korea's official ideology. But they have some elements of the Taliban and Nazi Germany thrown in.

It's 100% fair to lump the nobility that runs our school systems in with the Religious Right - because they share the exact same goal of banishing Halloween from our communities. If the jackboot fits, wear it. And if it feels good, put it on.

Land of Enchantment enchants!

Yesterday I got home from a camping trip to New Mexico.

It's obligatory for me to mention here that I saw a Florence Henderson look-alike there.

It's also a requirement that I mention that I saw a Cathy Lee Crosby look-alike there.

And it's absolutely mandatory that I mention the fact that a couple at the campsite kept loudly passing gas and laughing uncontrollably about it.

These events elicit little elaboration. But this road trip was one hilarious misadventure after another, and I plan to go into hairy detail about the trip in the November issue of The Last Word.

Patriot Act may be unleashed against school dissidents

Things that trigger a government investigation: parents and students disagreeing with school boards.

Things that don't trigger a government investigation: schools launching a years-long harassment campaign against a student.

The Nazism of America's schools has been on full display of late, and plenty of families are furious. And make no mistake, our schools are run by actual Nazis. I don't mean that in a figurative sense. If this was Germany in the 1930s, they would be card-carrying members of the Nazi Party. To be clear, they are not progressive.

Some folks are fighting back. The current regime of bio-juche has made activists out of families who never had any interest in activism before. Yet as far as I know, these families have committed no violence or crimes. Media reports imply that there has been a rise in threats against school boards and administrators. But that is a lie. It is a fabricated crisis.

Education Week now reports that the National School Boards Association is begging the Biden administration to launch an investigation of these dissidents, accusing them of "domestic terrorism." The NSBA cites - of all things - the Patriot Act. The NSBA is asking the Department of Homeland Security to get involved.

With the Patriot Act and the DHS being pressed into service, it's like having Bush back in power!

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland coddled the NSBA's deranged conspiracy theory by sending a memo to the FBI director about dissenters' nonexistent "criminal conduct."

The Biden administration is worse than Nixon, and it's not even close. In addition to all this stupidity, the administration has also been encouraging lawbreaking by school districts and openly giving them taxpayer dollars to break the law. For a presidential administration to openly condone lawbreaking is unprecedented in America's history. Even Watergate wasn't this bad. Maybe even the Iran-Contra scandal. When I registered as a Democrat when I was 18, I didn't know I signed up to become a fascist. But America today is truly fascist.

LinkedIn censors profiles to appease CCP

In recent days, LinkedIn has been notifying American journalists that it is blocking their profiles to appease the Chinese Communist Party.

LinkedIn is informing them that "your profile and your public activity, such as your comments and items that you share with your network, will not be made viewable in China." The company is not specifying what content is so offensive.

You read that right. An American company is censoring Americans to appease a foreign dictatorship.

Stories like this aren't completely new. Big Tech has sided with foreign dictators before. I recall a wave of Big Tech censorship in the late '90s or so, some of which was designed to please authoritarian regimes abroad. And who could forget Yahoo turning in journalists to the Chinese government?

More recently, Apple, Google, and YouTube have caved to overseas censors' demands.

The Democrats are furious. Wait, no, they're not. That would be the 1991 Democrats. The 2021 Democrats don't care, because they hate America.

LinkedIn issued a statement declaring, "We're a global platform that respects the laws that apply to us, including adhering to Chinese government regulations for our localized version of LinkedIn in China." Then what about following American laws in America? The U.S. used to look dimly on antitrust violations and against common carriers policing content.

The treason by Big Tech and the Democrats isn't a problem we can just bubble away.

Bitter gum face! (Bubble Gum Weekend)

Let's reflect back on some TV commercials circa 1997!

You may remember the Keystone beer commercials in which the cooltagonist would display "bitter beer face." Well, this is a commercial from that same era for Extra sugarless gum in which a woman seems to have "bitter gum face"...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj8ph5snX0I

Here's a synopsis of that commersh in case you're afraid an exploding cigar will pop out of your computer screen. A woman is standing on a rocky beach with other tourists - in order to see a whale jump out of the sea, a once-in-a-lifetime event. She crams a stick of the competitor's gum - you could tell it's Trident - into her mouth.

But the gum is so nasty that she needs another piece after just a few seconds. The look on her face is like the "bitter beer face" in the Keystone ads. So she starts pawing around in her bag for another stick. Just then, the whale pops up - and she misses it!

She waited her whole life to see the whale, and inferior gum caused her to miss it!

On the boat on the way back, she sulks because she missed the whale!

But nobody bubbled.

Butbutbut what about your sources?

A few words about sources for this blog's entries are in order. I don't mean humorous entries like "A Peter Cetera look-alike bubbled at Olive Garden." I mean serious news items.

This blog used to contain a lot more entries, and most were serious stories. Little by little, I stopped linking to various major news outlets, because they so clearly had a right-wing bias. After a few years, I don't think I even linked to any of America's over-the-air networks, and I think I stopped linking to CNN because it ran a discredited tabloid story claiming a mass shooter was a leftist. Now I very rarely link to any major media at all.

Lately, a few people have criticized me for not trusting major media, even as I quote Twitter blurbs from individuals. The people I follow on Twitter are more trustworthy than major media. Since the pandemic began, I've caught major media in lie after lie, designed to advance their bizarre fetish for continued COVID lockdowns and lockdown culture. Some of the media's statements were demonstrably false, and they also broke their promise that restrictions would be eased when we met certain goals.

I was assailed because the people I read on Twitter supposedly don't have the credentials the media has. That's simply not true. Some of them are statisticians who have advanced degrees, and most of their information is raw numbers, not editorial content that lets them twist things around. One of the best sources for COVID information is an accomplished public defender who became a civil liberties attorney. Two other sources are teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Others are doctors and epidemiologists.

They are not conspiracy theorists. The real conspiracy theorists are those in the media who actually claimed with a straight face that states were deliberately undercounting COVID deaths just so they'd have an excuse to lift lockdowns. Democrats and Republicans alike have been the target of this conspiracism - just as both parties were also lockdown perpetrators.

CNN and MSNBC keep whipping up fear among viewers who have become addicted to media fearmongering. These channels are as bad as Fox News was after 9/11. People have lost loved ones to these channels, as they lost others to Fox some 20 years ago. The FCC needs to step in and hold these channels accountable.

It is credentialism to claim that individuals on Twitter count less than established news sources. But it falls flat when you point out these Twitter folks have credentials that are just as strong as those of anyone else.

Ploppings! Vomiting! Beer! Game day bucket go boom!

This weekend is Cincinnati's Oktoberfest - or, as I call it, Ploptoberfest.

After the city reduced the space for Ploptoberfest to make way for the dumb streetcar and then lied about it, I figured I'd start avoiding the event. But after last year's shitshow, I decided to give Ploptoberfest another chance.

This year was barely worth it for me, because I apparently have another gallbladder infection that spoiled the day, or I'm feeling the result of being stabbed by a sea urchin during last week's Florida trip. Some aspects of Ploptoberfest are starting to improve again, but they still haven't gotten anywhere near the glory of a decade ago. A lot of this is more Last Word material than 'Pail material, but I'll give a rundown of yesterday's events.

People plopped stuff. I noticed someone had put a plastic Hawaiian Punch bottle in the toilet. Later, I saw that someone had put a plastic Kroger bag in the toilet.

I threw up because of the suspected gallbladder infection.

I noticed that people were drinking beer on the streetcar - in stark violation of an Allowed Cloud.

Also, some woman was in a festive enough mood that she bubbled a humongous bub.

Gum Fighter takes on Alice Cooper (Bubble Gum Weekend)

Sorry to report the death at age 92 of Don Collier, Western actor who played the Gum Fighter in the Hubba Bubba bubble gum commercials of the 1970s and 1980s.

In a media interview, Collier said he really didn't like blowing bubbles with bubble gum. Yet bubble he did. Some of these Wild West-themed commercials had to be filmed in Australia so they could air in that country. Collier said in another interview that he had to travel to Australia twice to film the ads. But he liked Australia so much that he visited 6 more times. (That was before Australia became the military dictatorship it is today.) Some of the ads though were filmed in Arizona.

A Hubba Bubba commersh from 1981 showed the Gum Fighter getting into a bubble bustin' battle with an Alice Cooper look-alike...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cmEjR3d6KA

The Gum Fighter's adversary in that ad was played by the late Timothy Carey. A website once reported that Carey didn't know how to blow a bubble until he was hired to appear in the ad, and that his daughter had to show him how.

But the Gum Fighter won the showdown with Alice Cooper, and at the end of the ad, Collier's character declared, "Big bubbles, no troubles!" Then he laughed in a manner similar to Shadoe Stevens.

These commercials will live on as long as they dare!

Ohio mayor suspected of taking bribes from contractor

These days, only one thing seems to be worse than Ohio Republicans: Ohio Democrats.

On policy stances, they're practically the same thing now. And they're both corrupt.

In Dayton, Ohio, Mayor Nan Whaley - a leading Democratic candidate for governor - was suspected by the FBI of accepting a bribe from a demolition contractor. The contractor was also suspected of bribing other public officials. The alleged events took place in 2013-14.

The FBI said the contractor often threatened to "call the mayor" regarding a variety of situations. He told an informant he gave Whaley $50,000 in cash.

If that's really what happened, this isn't cool, Dems.

Sort of like the school closing fiasco.

Rip-off-fest is back! (Circus Vargas, Circus Vargas!)

Yesterday was annual soft drink smuggling day - also known as Riverfest.

I snuck Pepsi into the festival - in defiance of their timeworn rule against bringing in beverages. I didn't get to do it last year because of all the stupid, but everything was back to normal this year!

Among those watching the fireworks from the Newport floodwall, there was some kid who was about 10 years old who had a huge column of snot dangling from his nose!

Also, a young woman walking along Dave Cowens Drive in front of the floodwall was in such a festive mood that she bubbled.

Buyer's remorse

I gave them a second chance (which they didn't deserve). They blew it.

The Democrats abandoned America once before, back in the '90s when they let the DLC take over. But later I thought they had crushed that Coke can, so I thought it was safe to vote for them again. Man, was I ever wrong!

I regret voting for Andy Beshear, thanks to his increasingly dictatorial demeanor and lies. I would have been better off voting for the Libertarian. I even regret voting for Democrats when I first voted in the early '90s when they were better, because that has only encouraged them now. I was a member of the Young Democrats in college, and I never would have joined if I had foreseen the current disaster.

When I used to warn everyone about the dangers of America becoming the hopeless dictatorship it is now, I always thought the Republicans would be the bigger culprit. I am absolutely shocked that the Democrats did more to establish a police state in the past 18 months than the Republicans did in the 40 years before. This is inexcusable.

It's not just familiar domestic issues but also international issues like the drone strike that killed all those children in Kabul.

My stance is not an amicable break with the Democrats. It also puts into perspective some of their scandals over the past couple years. For example, they had a series of scandals in another state a couple years back, and I felt at the time that I should give them the benefit of a doubt unless new evidence emerged. Now I'm pretty sure that the politicians who were involved actually did do the things they were accused of doing. I have a more open mind now so I can weigh the evidence more accurately.

The Democratic "leadership" should not be considered progressive, but if they claim to be, they need to turn in their progressive card. They have become outright fascist.

Newsom praises pro-CCP news outlet

As the recall election for that lying piece of shit Gavin Newsom approaches, he has a new scandal to worry about.

This month, Newsom attended a gala honoring Sing Tao News - a newspaper publisher aligned with the Chinese Communist Party. Newsom said the outlet practices "journalistic integrity" and offers "balanced news stories."

Sing Tao is registered as a foreign agent of China and is owned by members of a CCP-controlled board. Sing Tao's chairman has praised a Chinese law that has been used to arrest pro-democracy journalists and activists in Hong Kong.

Besides Newsom, other California Democrats - including embattled San Francisco Mayor London Breed - also spoke at the Sing Tao gala.

The Governor of California is a supporter of the Chinese Communist Party.

Kabul family dead after U.S. bombing

Under the DLC child abusers, America's rulers are back in the child killing business!

Today, it was reported that 10 members of the same family - including 8 children, some as young as 2 - were killed when a U.S. drone carpet-bombed a residential neighborhood in Kabul.

The U.S. called this a defensive strike. That's a lie.

The victims' relatives spent the day at a hospital identifying the charred remains.

I can't say I didn't get fair warning about the ghouls who did this - even if I hoped against all hope nothing like this would happen. Diehard readers of this blog were on top of things regarding the nature of the monsters who did this. The DLC's evil nature is now on display for all to see.

And that doesn't even count their monstrous and lawless domestic policies lately. The Biden regime makes the Nixon administration look like a smashing success in comparison.

You're gonna bubble after all... (Bubble Gum Weekend)

This occasional feature usually talks about specific gum commercials. But this is one that apparently never aired.

A few years ago, someone made a spoof of the opening sequence of 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' - the popular 1970s sitcom. This spoof was designed as an ad for Care-Free gum - one of the most widely ridiculed brands of beegee among gum connoisseurs.

If not sure if Care-Free is still available, so instead of embedding the video and giving free ad space to a product that may still exist, I'll post a link to it Out Of An Abundance Of Caution (tm)...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWRzqsS35gI

In that commersh, an actress portraying Mary Tyler Moore chomps a big ol' wad of gee. She even bubbles a couple times - in public, no less! Countless people witnessed these bubs.

No 'Supertrain' or 'Me & Mrs. C' spoofs appear imminent.

The "decency" police are back! (Circus Vargas, Circus Vargas!)

Let me be clear. There is a special place in hell for anyone who exploits children to make sexually explicit material.

But when adults produce content that features only consenting adults - and distributes it only to adults - it's none of anybody else's damn business. That's what makes the OnlyFans controversy so aggravating.

Up until about 15 years ago, you used to hear a lot about "decency." I live in a region where an art museum was actually prosecuted over an exhibit, government officials tried to set up a censorship board to scrutinize what was shown on cable TV, and numerous computer bulletin board systems were raided over content that was perfectly legal. There's still a lot that's wrong in society today - but this type of censorship had become relatively scarce since then.

Until now.

London-based OnlyFans is a favorite of online porn models - who make up the lion's share of the website's business. But now the site is banning sexually explicit content - after pressure from big banks and credit card companies.

That's like if ESPN got out of the sports business or if the major party nominating conventions got out of the comedy business. If you take away porn, there's not much remaining of OnlyFans, other than a few musicians and chefs.

OnlyFans already specifically prohibited illegal content. The material the banks objected to is legal. Some of this legal material was the main source of income for content creators.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has found fewer than 100 instances of child exploitation on OnlyFans per year. Meanwhile, the organization has found about 65,000 instances on Twitter and 20 million on Facebook. Why doesn't anyone go after precious, precious Facebook?

Even though OnlyFans was already taking a tough line against illegal conduct, Congress has launched an investigation against OnlyFans - while Twitter and Facebook go unpunished.

Going after a website's legal content stinks of the "decency" crusades of a couple decades ago. Since last year, a new wave of puritanism and false morality has taken over much of the world, especially Western countries. It guides not only views on sexuality but also censorship of other materials and the draconian COVID-19 measures - which were unheard of during the swine flu, Ebola virus, and other pandemics just a few years ago. This new false morality is essentially a new pseudoreligious movement.

It's a recipe for disaster.

Court gives immunity to abusive school personnel

Right-wing judges make up their own laws just as much as totalitarian governors and mayors have done lately.

New rulings by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals say teachers and other school personnel who physically abuse children enjoy qualified immunity.

The court dismissed a Texas case that was filed on behalf of a 1st grader who claimed a teacher seized him by the neck, threw him on the floor, and held him in a chokehold for minutes on end. Then the court dismissed a case filed on behalf of a special education student who was tased by school police repeatedly - even after he was face-down on the ground.

The result of these rulings is that it's become unclear whether schoolchildren are guaranteed a constitutional right to be free from excessive force. Now courts can just dismiss cases over qualified immunity without having to confront whether this right applies. These rulings effectively rob children of the right to be free of violence by schools.

The people who have kept schools closed for over a year are loving this!

Democratic lawmaker under fire for racist e-mail

I can't believe I ever voted for this party.

Delaware State Rep. Gerald Brady has decided not to seek reelection after it was revealed that he made racist comments in an e-mail. In addition, fellow Democrats are refusing to initiate an ethics investigation into Brady - even though the Delaware House has a rule that says lawmakers may not engage in conduct that "brings the House into disrepute."

Brady sent the e-mail using his official government account. The e-mail was accidentally sent to an advocate for decriminalizing prostitution.

Brady is also the executive director of the Delaware AFL-CIO.

This story has made a mockery of our entire democratic system and much of our labor leadership. If our "leaders" don't have the values to properly confront racism such as this, what do they have? They've abandoned economic justice, they've abandoned civil liberties, they've abandoned schools, and now they've even abandoned racial harmony.

This is not the Democratic Party I signed up for in 1991. I was a member of the Northern Kentucky Young Democrats in the mid-'90s, and I went to countless labor rallies in the 2010s, and this makes a joke of the work that I and others put into these organizations and events.

The Democrats being better 30 years ago isn't a reason to vote for them now.

The longest-running political party in the world. Complete garbage.

Democratic kingmaker demands criminalizing homeless

This isn't what I signed up for when I first pulled that donkey lever when I was 18.

Jeffrey Katzenberg is a zillionaire entertainment mogul who is a growing source of funds for Democratic campaigns. Katzenberg faced an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2012 over allegations that he bribed Chinese officials. Katzenberg also tried unsuccessfully to ram through the right-wing Stop Online Piracy Act, which would have criminalized fair use activities. However, that bill was introduced by a Republican.

In the past few years, Katzenberg has emerged as one of the biggest investors in The Young Turks - a once-trusted show that has since degenerated from progressive commentary into shitlib nonsense, such as parroting CIA propaganda, smearing antiwar journalists, and blackmailing Jimmy Dore.

As one of the wealthiest residents of Los Angeles, Katzenberg exerts real influence over the city's public policy. Recently, Katzenberg met with city officials on how to deal with the crisis of homelessness that afflicts 40,000 people in the city. After the meetings, Los Angeles City Council decided to enact new regulations that banned homeless encampments from huge swaths of the city. Katzenberg urged council members to put strict limits on where the homeless could sleep.

Where there's smoke, there's fire. Deals with Chinese officials? Check. Funding major political campaigns and media projects? Check. Pushing totalitarian public policies? Check. I have a strange feeling that this goes much, much deeper than SOPA and L.A.'s war against the homeless.

Democrats' right-wing racism

I've lamented for years how the Democrats and the Republicans often have little difference in policy as they've built their parties around an elitist right-wing media consensus. But I thought that at least the Democrats would reject militant racism - in contrast to the Republicans.

But these days, the Democrats are just as bad.

It turns out that one of the top Democratic Party bosses in northern Kentucky is a supporter of NumbersUSA. NumbersUSA is a xenophobic group that uses some of the most frankly racist arguments around to justify restricting immigration. It blames immigration for America's environmental crisis, a stance that one website calls "absurd" and "out of the mainstream." NumbersUSA was actually conceived by the publisher of a white nationalist newsletter.

This racism is the face of the Democratic Party in the 2020s. Shame on you, Democrats. This is absolutely inexcusable.

How did I find out about this? I'm not that stupid. I'm not going to reveal who the political operative in question is, but you may be able to find out if you have the right connections or have hobnobbed with the wrong politicians.

I can't believe that when I was 18, I voted for a party that has turned into a bunch of reactionary weirdoes. I damn sure won't vote for them at 48. America has minor parties but is for practical purposes a two-party system. So, after the Reagan regime supported South Africa's apartheid dictatorship, I have a right to expect the Democrats to offer something different. Thirty years ago, they did - but not anymore.

Democratic totalitarianism grows

I never thought the Democrats would trust the CIA more than the Republicans do, but here we are.

A new poll by the Pew Research Center shows ballooning totalitarianism within the once-great Democratic Party. In fact, this poll suggests the Democrats are actually to the right of the Republicans now.

The poll says 69% of Democrats now have a positive opinion of the CIA - 7 points higher than the Republicans' opinion of this agency. Seventy-eight percent of Democrats have a favorable opinion of the FBI - 23 points higher than the Republicans' opinion of it.

This poll is not an outlier. Other polls in the past few months show Democrats' support of the Chinese Communist Party and uncontrolled free trade also inching upward. Support for both now exceeds support by Republicans.

This just after almost all House Democrats voted to turn the Capitol Police into an interstate intelligence agency - while most or all House Republicans voted against it.

Ah yes, the same Democratic Party that has now made Bill Kristol one of its top pundits! The longtime right-wing analyst became a Democrat last year - even though his actual policy stances didn't change - so that shows you where the party is headed.

Judge lets Rotenberg use shock therapy

We all know that a lot of administrators in regular schools enjoy torturing students. I've known it for 40 years. But it's also true in schools, institutions, and "treatment" centers for disabled children.

You can't carry on a conversation with the sociopaths and narcissists who support this garbage - so I don't even try. Sometimes they'll try to force you to argue with them, because they like being argumentative (the same thing they accuse everyone else of being). But they can't win on a level playing field, so they wait until they have some numbers or leverage.

Judge Rotenberg Educational Center is a program for developmentally disabled children in Canton, Massachusetts. The facility has been known for years for using electric shock therapy - a form of torture. The UN even called it torture.

Last year, the FDA finally banned electric shock devices in places like Rotenberg. But the facility promptly sued, and now some Republican federal judge has ruled in Rotenberg's favor. The judge said the FDA has no power to ban this kind of torture.

So what's the purpose of the FDA?

The ruling said the FDA can't regulate medicine. Uh, yes it can. It's in the name: Food and Drug Administration! Medicine falls under "drug."

I'd like to be able to say we have a right to expect the Democrats to rein in Republican judges like this, but the Democrats today support torturing kids, so I'm not counting on it. They like closing schools so much that they should have started with Rotenberg.

Executive order bans noncompetes

Well, he's finally doing something, I guess. But things shouldn't have been allowed to get so bad in the first place.

According to press reports, President Biden has signed a new executive order dealing with a variety of industries. The order quite rightly prohibits noncompete agreements - which prevent workers from moving to rival companies.

The $98.26 question is: Why were noncompetes allowed in the first place? How were companies able to enforce them on workers who no longer worked there? They couldn't very well fire them.

The order also puts a halt to excessive licensing restrictions and fights back against hospital consolidation. It calls for new rules requiring airlines to refund passengers for fees over things like baggage delays. It directs the Department of Agriculture to issue new rules to define when meat can be labeled as an American product and let consumers know if food producers treat workers fairly. The order even encourages the FCC to restore 'Net neutrality. The Democrats were big boosters of 'Net neutrality several years ago, but most of them abandoned this stance when propellerheads took over the party.

This executive order is bad, bad, bad news for the propellerheads, incels, and non-player characters who have mutilated the Democratic Party in recent years.

DLC revolving door keeps spinning

The Biden administration so far has not failed to disappoint. Perhaps its only major positive accomplishment so far is revoking a right-wing rule enacted late in the Trump era that would have gutted disability benefits.

It was bad enough that President Biden appointed Antony Blinken as Secretary of State, after Blinken was one of the architects of the failed Iraq War. Now, Biden has tapped failed Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to serve as U.S. ambassador to India - even after Garcetti's hopelessly botched handling of the pandemic.

That's not the Democratic Party that I joined when I was 18. It's not the Democratic Party that I gave a second chance to when I was 42, after I thought we had finally crushed the DLC like the Coke can it is. The party obviously didn't deserve a second chance, or even a first chance. I wouldn't have voted for them when I was 18 if I knew they'd be such a disaster 30 years later.

That's like putting 30 years into a romantic relationship only to see it fall apart because of something your partner did. All that time was wasted.

There are some terrible, terrible people in the Democratic "leadership" these days.

With no access to pools, it's sink or swim

Access to swimming facilities is more important than some people think. Swimming isn't just a good social event but it's also very healthy.

Greater Cincinnati has few if any natural beaches, and it's too cold or rainy for swimming for most of the year anyway. So around here, when you get a chance to swim, you jump at it!

Most of you probably don't have your own pool. But a few of you might be lucky enough to have family members who live at a condo or apartment complex that has its own pool. But this isn't always reliable. I planned to borrow such a pool this morning, but found it closed because the pump is broken and might remain so For The Foreseeable Future (tm).

Not everybody is fortunate enough to have even that, and those who struggle the most deserve access to pools too. You may recall that in 2019, I used a Cincinnati city pool. But last summer - under the guise of COVID-19 - this pool became open by reservation only, and only for brief time slots. This has been made permanent - even with the pandemic over. The purpose of this is to limit access to the public and reserve the pool for those with means.

Where does this leave the average person? They're very lucky if they have their own pool, and now even pools that were open to the public are limiting access or closing altogether. Pools that are still fully open are usually not accessible at all, because public transit has been reduced to a barebones system. The reduction of public transit was itself designed in part to deny people amenities like pools.

There's plenty of blame to go around. For most of my life, the Republicans were far more to blame than the Democrats for this. I don't think this is the case now, because there are so many psychopaths in the Democratic Party now. Unchecked psychopathy isn't completely new to the Democrats though. Even well before last year, there were a few regionally prominent Democrats who built their entire political careers around ridiculously insane and classist vendettas that have affected their targets for decades. They practiced the politics of retaliation and personal destruction. Sadly, in the spirit of partisanship, other Democrats wouldn't call out these insufferable tyrants when they had the chance. They preferred to hobnob with them rather than call them out.

The blame is truly bipartisan, and regardless of party affiliation, some of the politicians most responsible were horrible, horrible people.

The Cincinnati Post was mostly a fusty right-wing rag in its later years, but at least it had a few editorials calling out the city's recreation department for not opening pools in a timely fashion. The scarcity of pool access has gotten a lot worse since then, but nobody today dares to criticize it. The media has truly shifted the window of acceptable thought.

Runner banned from Olympics over burrito

Well, folks, it's a stupid world we live in. You can't deny that!

It's bad enough that the International Olympic Committee likes authoritarians, causing them to often hold the Olympics in countries with authoritarian governments - like the 2022 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Beijing. Even when the Olympics are in a country that isn't particularly authoritarian, the committee still manages to bungle it. They not only delayed the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo until this summer but have also strictly limited capacity and banned cheering - even as COVID-19 has become just a memory.

What's the point of even having the Olympics if it can't have in-person fans?

Now Shelby Houlihan - a record-setting runner who was a favorite for America's Olympic team - is being disqualified from the Olympic trials, and won't be in the Olympics. She has spent her entire life practicing for the Olympics, and now her dream has been dashed. She was disqualified and received a 4-year suspension from running because she tested positive for a banned steroid.

Why did she test positive? It was because of a pork burrito she got from a food stand. She tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone because this substance was used in the pig meat in the burrito.

Since it was first allowed in the mid-'90s, we've been pumping our food supply with steroids, artificial hormones, and other substances. So much of our diet is made up of frankenfoods now that it's hard to avoid consuming these substances. Yet Olympic officials keep trying to make examples of athletes by punishing them for what's in our food supply.

I think these frankenfoods have had a negative biological impact on people, especially those young enough to have been raised on them. This - combined with the elitist media's stage-managing of social mores - seems to have had a disastrous effect on people's behavior and health. If potential Olympic athletes are punished for ingesting frankenfoods, maybe the factory farming industry should be punished just as severely for introducing steroids into our food supply.

Time to abolish Department of Homeland Security

Has the Department of Homeland Security ever accomplished a single positive thing?

I used to like certain public figures and ideas, but occasionally I'll grow more brain cells, and I find that I can't believe I ever honored their idiocy. You live, you learn. More often, however, once-respected figures will sell out to appease wealthy donors. But in the 20 years since the Department of Homeland Stupidity was created, I've been consistent in my view that this department should be abolished.

This department was founded as George W. Bush's personal plaything. (The Democrats would like that, since they're always praising Bush these days.) The Transportation Security Administration is part of the DHS, and anyone who has traveled on a U.S. commercial airliner even once in the past 20 years knows firsthand what a disaster the TSA is.

Rather than international terrorism carried out using earlier methods, America faces a bigger threat from domestic terrorism. International terrorism is more likely to be modern cyberterrorism like the Chinese Communist Party's ransomware attacks. And, while more traditional right-wing domestic terrorists are still at large, domestic terrorism is sure to soon encompass those who try to enforce lockdown culture as COVID martial law lifts. Government resources should be focused first and foremost on the greatest threats.

In fact, the Justice Department recently began a probe of white supremacists within the DHS. How can the DHS be trusted to fight terrorism when it's full of violent racists?

About the only time I ever hear about the DHS is when it bullies local governments into closing paths and bridges - which hurts nearby residents.

And what the hell does the TSA do besides manhandle air travelers? I can't think of anything useful it does. Much of what the TSA does has absolutely nothing to do with terrorism in any form. As a society, we should reject the sort of toxicity that the TSA fosters.

Free societies are supposed to honor certain principles. The TSA and the broader DHS violate these values. They violate free movement, free assembly, bodily autonomy, and local control.

ViacomCBS funds effort against Newsom recall

This is yet another reason why we need to reverse the Citizens United ruling and forbid corporations from funding political campaigns.

The pandemic has proven what an incompetent clown California Gov. Gavin Newsom is. Even many of his former supporters won't back him now. But the campaign against his recall has received $40,000 from Paramount Pictures. A Paramount spokesperson said the contribution actually came from Paramount's parent company, ViacomCBS.

A media company that has a major news operation is donating to a political campaign? That's a red flag right there.

For CBS being so Republican for such a long time before the pandemic, they manage to pick the very worst Democrats to support.

The company also gave $5,000 to the California Democratic Party - which as far as I'm concerned is equivalent to the Republicans. The Democrats are controlled opposition.

Though Newsom whines that the effort against him is a "Republican recall", let me tell you something: It isn't. I support it too.

Bert said the F-word ('Sesame Street' Wednesday)

This ranks right up there with the time Mister Rogers extended his middle finger!

You may remember this 'Sesame Street' segment, which is one of many where Ernie wakes up Bert over something stupid...

In that skit, Ernie wakes up in the middle of the night, whips out his typewriter, places it on Bert's bed, and writes a poem.

But listen closely at 10 seconds into the clip. In fact, you really don't need to listen that closely, because it's unmistakable. Bert declares, "Fuck!"

I remember in one of the segments where Bert and Ernie go to a movie theater, Bert gets in a big argument with other patrons at the end. The F-word seemed to be tossed around there too, but it wasn't quite as obvious.

Yet another utility rate hike looms

Watch your wallet!

Duke Energy is choosing this era of lockdown-induced recession to ask for yet another rate increase for its northern Kentucky customers. This one would apply to natural gas and hike rates by 12.7%.

I'm sure it'll be approved, because.

If the lockdown cult gave a damn about anyone's life, they'd fight against this. Instead they sit around in just their underpants all day.

Austin passes right-wing referendumb to criminalize homelessness

Yet another evil policy from the same crowd that gave us the lockdowns!

In Austin, Texas, voters have just approved a right-wing referendumb called Proposition B - which reinstates policies to criminalize some activities of the homeless. Proposition B would make it illegal for the homeless to camp anywhere that isn't specifically designated by the Parks & Recreation Department, to sit on a sidewalk, or to sleep outdoors in much of the city - bringing back rules that were lifted in 2019.

The measure was put on the ballot by a well-funded right-wing PAC called Save Austin Now. Just recently, city council partially reinstated the camping ban - before Proposition B even passed. Meanwhile, Texas lawmakers are considering a statewide camping ban.

There's no guarantee that bundles of partially burned ballots won't show up in hotel rooms, given the tendency of foreign dictatorships to interfere with American elections. But as for now, the result sadly stands.

Media almost uses magic word properly

You were so close, media. So close.

This may be like Last Word material in that it explores the word ruin, but it dives into a much more serious matter that's more suitable for this blog.

A New Jersey paper recently ran this headline: "'Students feel disconnected' and it's not senioritis. COVID ruined Class of 2021's big year." Nope, it wasn't COVID that ruined it. It was schools being run by a bunch of jackbooted ghouls that ruined it. A different posting of this same article is headlined: "Graduating Class of 2021 has senior year ruined by COVID." Again, it was the incompetent response by school and government authorities - not COVID - that ruined it.

The article itself uses the magic word accurately by simply not specifying what spoiled the year: "Fond memories of high school senior year have been ruined" to be replaced by ''virtual" schooling and canceled events.

The more important point is that there is a special place in hell for government and school officials who destroyed these students' senior year. There was simply no defensible reason for it to be ruined. An entire year. Gone. They can't get that back. School and government authorities have no humanity whatsoever. They show a complete lack of consideration for others.

Now that the pandemic is over in the U.S., we need to move into the punishment phase. Our rulers are guilty of crimes against humanity and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. These people are evil.

Bush whines about modern GOP

Why does anyone give a shit what the worst so-called President in the country's history thinks?

This morning, NBC's Today took a break from shaming people for crooked teeth by conducting a rare interview with the despicable George W. Bush. I guess that's fitting because today is Hitler's birthday.

Bush complained that today's Republican Party is "isolationist, protectionist, and to a certain extent nativist." Back in 2000, Bush received an endorsement from an Alabama-based Ku Klux Klan chapter, so he has no business accusing anyone else of being nativist.

And if the GOP is protectionist and isolationist, isn't that an improvement over supporting unfair trade policies and pointless wars like Bush did?

Trump was bad, but even he wasn't the GOP's nadir. Bush and the Tea Party were. Yet Today and other media sources are implying Bush was some sort of moderating force. This is the man who gave us the Patriot Act, the Iraq War, Real ID, a recession, climate crisis denial, corporate mergers, mass incarceration, and terrorism, and he's being painted as a "get things done" moderate.

I'm just waiting for someone in the "Greater Cincinnati Politics" group on Facebook to say I'm not a good Democrat because I dared to speak ill of poor Bush.

I had a dream someone shit on the floor at school

I just had possibly the strangest dream ever! This is weirder than any dream that included Ronald Reagan or the one where John Madden hosted a celebrity daredevils TV special where famous people kept falling to their deaths and he said, "Boom!"

In the latest dream, I was back in high school, and I was sent to live in Brazil. My teacher there was one of my old middle school classmates (now an adult), and she had written an entire encyclopedia and was negotiating a treaty on Brazilian fishing rights in U.S. waters. Everybody at this school spoke English. I was kicked out of this class for laughing uncontrollably. The teacher in my new class invited me to appear in a school musical.

Then we were in line in the cafeteria. There was a piece of shit on the floor. It wasn't a huge log, but it was slightly bigger than just a pebble poop. A classmate picked it up off the ground before he discovered what it was and threw it aside. Then he walked up to the teacher and said, "There's a piece of shit on the floor."

When I woke up, I was singing those words to a catchy little tune! "There's a piece of shit on the floor...There's a piece of shit on the floor..."

Biden confiscates land to build Trump border wall

I'm sure a few of you out there voted for Joe Biden so he would stop shit like this, but this story proves he's just as miserable as most other recent Presidents.

Back in August, candidate Biden was asked about the Trump regime's idiotic border wall. Biden said that not only would he halt its construction but specifically said his administration was not going to seize land to build it: "End. Stop. Done. Over. Not gonna do it."

But guess what's he's doing now? The Biden regime has seized a Texas family's land to build the wall - drawing outrage from immigration advocates and others. The family had also fought efforts by the George W. Bush thugocracy to take their land, but Trump restarted this fight - and Biden is continuing it. As a result, just days ago, U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez - a Bush appointee - granted the government immediate possession of the land, citing its need for "urgency of possession."

The tyranny continues. What a shock!

People are actually suing schools

Some of the most rotten people I've ever met were people in charge of schools, and they deserve to be not just sued but absolutely humiliated. Sadly, the amount of conspiracy in place to shield schools from accountability is usually a bridge too far.

But our schools aren't completely off the hook.

The school system in Petaluma, California, is facing a federal lawsuit from a former student because of a pattern of harassment that started there in 2019. School officials refused to take action against this harassment. The events forced her to enroll in remote learning - creating an inferior learning experience.

Of course, most schools now are forcing everyone to take remote learning, so hopefully there will be more lawsuits over that.

Schools in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, are being sued after a student who was enrolled in online learning was expelled because a BB gun was visible in the background as he took an online class from his bedroom. The ACLU finally awoke from its slumber by filing a brief supporting this federal suit. After the expulsion was imposed, Louisiana lawmakers introduced a bipartisan bill to implement new appeals processes for students punished by schools. The bill was signed into law.

But I think we can all agree there's still way too many barriers to suing schools. Schools need to have their wings clipped too every now and then.

Celebrity look-alike season is here!

Something is in the air? Can you feel it?

Why, it's celebrity look-alike season!

I've just been informed of several celebrity look-alikes sighted recently at parks and stores in the region. A man who resembled Bernie Sanders was seen at a park. A woman who looked like Willie Nelson was seen exiting a car. A woman who resembled Justin Bieber was seen at a Kohl's in Ohio.

I've also been informed that a woman was seen bubbling a small green bubble at the same park as above. Green bubs seem to be the thing lately. It's the hottest new trend in bubble gum busting!

Biden administration fires staffers over past marijuana use

Wow, the Biden administration is marching straight into 1995!

News reports reveal that numerous White House staffers have been dismissed or demoted from their jobs over marijuana use that took place years ago. They were fired even if their marijuana use occurred in one of the handful of states that has legalized it.

We got rid of Trump only to replace him with this unspeakably absurd nonsense? Jimmy Dore observed, "That's like shit you would think the rightest of right-wing assholes would do."

Could somebody remind me again why I was supposed to keep voting for Biden's miserable party any time in the past 25 years?

Gavin Newsom is a liar

California Gov. Gavin Newsom will be forever known for his botched coronavirus response, and now he may face a recall election because of it.

Predictably, Gruesome Newsom is out there lying about the recall's supporters. He claimed those who support recall are anti-vaxxers. That is a lie. I have already received my first dose of the vaccine. If I was an anti-vaxxer, why would I even get the vaccine? Newsom also claimed that we're anti-immigrant - also a lie. He even claimed we're Trump supporters - which is yet another lie, as I never voted for Trump. In fact, I attended numerous rallies against Trump.

Half the people out there supporting the recall are your former supporters, Gavin. Backstabbing has consequences. Plus, approving all those fracking permits and rescinding state workers' union contracts doesn't exactly help Newsom's case.

This story also illustrates how McCarthyism works. Joe McCarthy called opponents communists. The right-wing "law and order" types in my youth called opponents drug addicts and pushers. Today's political elite calls opponents anti-vaxxers. In all 3 cases, the accusers have known it wasn't true but used the accusation to score political points.

Even Justine Bateman - the actress who became a 'Net neutrality activist - signed the recall petition.

Gavin Newsom is a discredited disgrace. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo - who held out longer against COVID-19 alarmism a year ago - isn't far behind. Today, Newsom's most vocal supporters are also Cuomo's most diehard apologists even as Cuomo is facing numerous sexual harassment allegations. A dissenter from the Newsom order pointed out that Newsom's website to fight the recall effort contains messaging that is no different from "the garbage used by Fox News." It truly isn't much different, as the website is steeped in classism, lies, fear, paranoid style, and terrifying imagery. That's all the DLC has. No real ideas. Just finger-pointing trash.

Free trade = bad food

The elitist free trade fetish has not only killed American jobs. It's also flooded our grocery stores with spoiled food, promoted bad farming practices, and exported unhealthy food to children abroad.

Oppressive free trade policies have hampered America's ability to enforce rules promoting a safer food supply. A few years ago, the World Trade Organization decreed that the U.S. had to lift its longstanding rule that required meat imported from other countries to follow U.S. safety standards. China went through the WTO to challenge a U.S. ban on importing chicken from China. After the bird flu pandemic, Congress intervened, but then backtracked because of WTO interference.

After America's power to regulate and inspect food was infringed upon, salmonella increased in the U.S. There was even a hepatitis outbreak caused by tainted strawberries served at school.

Trade policies have also menaced Europe. One change would have undercut American family farms while promoting huge, inhumane factory farms by allowing these factory farms to export to Europe - violating European regulations. Much of the meat from these factory farms is produced with huge amounts of pesticides, chlorine, and growth hormones.

Sometimes, America is its own worst enemy. A few years ago, a Republican bill in Congress would have preempted state animal welfare laws. (It's not as if Democrats are blameless. In fact, they're worse now.) Supporters said they were just trying to protect the "free market." But trade policies have unfairly subjected countries to other countries' whims.

Some would ask why I assailed snack food taxes while not criticizing some food regulations of other countries. For starts, a food tax is usually a regressive tax, and these taxes in particular played favorites by benefiting well-connected companies that make bad products. Plus, other countries' recent laws were designed in part to fend off restrictive COVID-19 measures. There's an entire media movement to toughen COVID-19 rules on individuals - no matter how strict the rules already are. This movement is a malicious effort to destroy the economy of various countries. Many media outlets and politicians have acted in bad faith by toughening stay-at-home orders and lockdown culture. In addition, it appears that under the food rules that were enacted instead of lockdowns, anyone who needs certain food items may still get them. These laws primarily do not target traditional snacks that are locally produced, but processed foods. Processors are seen as too willing to make a buck off the public.

Whatever the weather, however, better food is mostly a product of fairer trade and better education.

White House covered up staffer's threats against reporter

Remember when Democrats had higher standards than this? Pepperidge Farm remembers. That's why the Democrats were the party I originally registered with. But I'm thoroughly ashamed of some of the things Democrats have done over the past, well, 25 years.

TJ Ducklo is a deputy press secretary in the Biden administration who has worked for many media outlets. Now it's been revealed that Ducklo made threats against a journalist for reporting on a relationship he had with another reporter. Ducklo told a Politico reporter he would "destroy" her for reporting the story. Ducklo reportedly then made a series of comments that included calling the reporter "jealous" because of an alleged past relationship.

Upon taking office, President Biden said this about his staff: "If you are ever working with me and I hear you treat another colleague with disrespect, talk down to someone, I promise you I will fire you on the spot." But he didn't. Instead, the White House covered up Ducklo's threats. Administration officials waited until after media outlets broke the story before they did anything. Even after that, the only action they took against Ducklo was suspending him for a week. In fact, the White House kept blaming the reporter who was the target of the threats and unprofessional comments.

This sort of behavior never would have been tolerated at most workplaces I'm familiar with. If I did something like this, I'd be fired - no ifs, ands, or buts.

When I first voted when I was 18, I voted a straight Democratic ticket, because I wanted to have good colleges and I wanted people to be respected. After all, weren't the Democrats the party of education and civil liberties? I didn't sign up for covering up presidential staffers' misdeeds.

Labor pick fired worker over Black Lives Matter support

We truly live in a clown world when a mayor who fired a city worker for participating in a Black Lives Matter protest can be nominated for - of all things - Labor Secretary.

President Biden has nominated Boston Mayor Marty Walsh for Labor Secretary, and questions about Walsh are arising. When Walsh was elected mayor, some praised him as a progressive choice, but that turned out to be a load of roo gas. That was a flaw in reasoning by those who think the Democratic Party represents the entirety of American progressivism - when in fact the party's leadership these days doesn't represent any of it.

Back in 2015, Walsh fired a worker with the Boston Centers for Youth & Families because she took part in a Black Lives Matter event. She was on her own time when she participated - not on work time.

Walsh sniffed, "As mayor, you have to make tough, difficult decisions. This is not a difficult decision.”

Let this sink in for a moment. A man who is about to become Labor Secretary - which deals with workplace matters - fired someone for taking part in Black Lives Matter.

Should we be surprised that a party that doesn't give a shit about civil liberties also doesn't give a shit about the closely related issue of worker rights? It's almost like the Democrats today are former Republicans or something.

The Brooks Brothers riot was the Poo Coup of 2000

What's worse than 2021 Republicans, maybe even 2021 Democrats? Republicans in 2000!

As bad as the Poo Coup - the bizarre raid on the Capitol on January 6 - was, it was child's play compared to the Brooks Brothers riot. This event - so named because of corporate attire worn by rioters - took place in Miami just weeks after the 2000 "election." The purpose of it was to disrupt the vote count.

The attack - which included several people being punched or trampled - succeeded in its motive. Officials stopped the recount because of the rioting, leading to the warmongering George W. Bush dictatorship.

Many of those behind this putsch were paid Republican operatives. Right-wing congressman John E. "Teeny Weenie" Sweeney gave the signal that started it. Some of the rioters went on to be hired by the Bush regime.

The Brooks Brothers riot was more than just a temper tantrum over losing an election. It actually changed the outcome of the "election."

Even if Bush wasn't impeached over this (and there were plenty of other reasons to impeach him), why weren't other Republican officials? They incited an insurrection.

Now let's listen to the Ohio Democratic Party calling me "stupid" for daring to criticize Republicans.

Media beating war drum in Iran

Well, we know what the next crisis is going to be now that people are getting tired of the pandemic.

President Biden recently rushed through the appointment of Antony Blinken as Secretary of State. Few people even knew who Blinken was until he was approved. Blinken was one of the architects of the failed Iraq War almost 20 years ago.

Now Blinken is going around telling everyone that Iran is just a few weeks away from building nuclear missiles. No evidence of course. We're just expected to believe him without question.

Remember the last time a Middle Eastern country was accused of having weapons of mass destruction? That of course was Iraq. We see how that worked out. Then again, some media accounts continued to claim Iraq had such weapons, even after inspectors confirmed that it didn't.

Some people have been claiming for years that Iran is on the brink of getting nukes. That's like how all these cults keep predicting the end of the world only to see it not happen.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the warmongering media is happy to help the cause of starting yet another failed war.

Virginia Democrats block "right-to-work" repeal

The Democratic Party and some of our labor unions have turned into a circular firing squad, and Virginia is a good example.

In my America, repealing so-called "right-to-work" laws was a Democratic priority. But it isn't anymore. In fact, it's not even a priority among some unions, even though these laws harm organized labor. Some unions lately have shown how corrupt they are - by keeping industries and agencies closed in the name of the COVID-19 pandemic, thus costing their own workers their jobs and expanding authoritarianism. This is the precise opposite of what unions are supposed to stand for.

There has been a bill lately in Virginia to repeal that state's hated "right-to-work" law. This effort was supported by a few Democratic lawmakers. But now it's been blocked by Democratic leadership. The so-called leaders who blocked it are usually those supported by the same forces that have kept much of the world under some form of lockdown culture for a year.

In other words, corrupt unions support politicians who are hurting unions. Honest unions at least try not to.

Imagine if you can how these corrupt unions would react if there were laws that apply only to their unions. There should be a law that revokes the privileges of these unions - while protecting other unions. This would allow workers to join or form unions that actually represent their interests.

Biden lifts Trump disability rule; propellerheads furious!

Well, I gotta give credit where credit is due.

In late 2019, the Trump regime proposed a right-wing rule that would have robbed people who received disability benefits by subjecting them to more frequent reviews. Make no mistake, this effort was malicious. But it was only the latest in a decades-long series of assaults on America's disability programs. These assaults had been largely whipped up by the media, and a USA Today editorial praised the Trump regime's proposal.

It appears that this change was quietly approved late last year - when nobody was paying attention, because of the bipartisan incompetence at fighting the coronavirus outbreak.

But on Thursday, President Biden withdrew Trump's rule. Lifting the rule is the sort of thing real Democrats used to do, before they caved to the "government by Gannett" gaslighting that's become the norm these days. Lately, when you see some editorial that was previously unprintable outside Nazi Germany, the editorial usually manages to become government policy within days.

This time, however, the propellerheads got blindsided by Biden reversing the Trump regime's rule. Elitists don't give a shit about anyone on disability - or Social Security in general. They shame people for leaving their house during a pandemic, saying it might "kill Grandma", yet they squeal with laughter over the elderly having to eat Mighty Dog because Social Security got slashed. Propellerheads now want Biden's head on a platter all because he hasn't yet issued a nationwide lockdown. Social media totalitarians are churning out repugnant articles demanding a months-long stay-at-home order and praising China's draconian pandemic response.

The story of the scuttled disability rule echoes a similar event that Ronald Reagan instigated. The Reagan dictatorship illegally removed 200,000 Americans from the disability rolls. Many suicides resulted. But that rule was reversed because of a public outcry.

CBS execs suspended over toxic work culture

Racism and misogyny in the American media? Imagine that!

Following a Los Angeles Times report, CBS has suspended 2 top TV executives for allegedly cultivating a hostile work environment. The execs include Peter Dunn, longtime president of the right-wing network's TV stations, and David Friend, senior vice-president of news for the stations.

The report claims both of these men disparaged women and Black people who worked at the network. Back in 2018, chief executive Les Moonves left CBS after becoming the subject of numerous allegations of sexual misconduct.

The National Association of Black Journalists said of the new report, "It is clear that there is a massive problem among CBS owned-and-operated stations, and in order for the company's culture to be transformed, it must begin with the firing of Dunn and Friend."

Peter Dunn and David Friend were the guys who were deciding what got broadcast as news, and now both men appear to be a discredited disgrace.

Enquirer attorney blasts anti-censorship bill

Freaking gosh, I can't even believe I have to say this! Our side should be the ones fighting for the free flow of ideas, not idly sitting by as Big Tech monopolies impede it - even in the rare event that they screw up and block those we oppose.

I found a column on the Cincinnati Enquirer website titled "Trump's hurt feelings not a reason to introduce a law that violates the Constitution." Ninety-nine percent of the time, I would agree. The outgoing Commander-in-Chief has hurt my feelings too - and hurt me economically - but I wouldn't violate the Constitution over it.

But it turns out the bill in question is hardly unconstitutional. The column was written by Jack Greiner, a lawyer who - ironically enough - represents the Enquirer in First Amendment cases. Let this sink in: A First Amendment attorney completely misses the mark on First Amendment legislation.

The bill is Kentucky's S.B. 111, introduced by 2 Republican legislators. The Kentucky GOP has a record for right-wing hackery, but this is a bill that Democrats and progressives need to get behind. In fact, if it passes, the bill would be of greater benefit to the left. Were I a legislator, I'd be happy to introduce a bill like this. The bill - titled the Stop Social Media Censorship Act - would make major social media platforms liable for civil damages if they censor protected speech.

Trust me, legislation like this is sorely needed. I posted here on Sunday that I've learned the hard way over the past 25 years how badly the left has been targeted by online muzzling. Social media platforms have become monopolies on par with telephone giants. The effort to fight social media censorship is like the 'Net neutrality fight.

One of Greiner's main arguments is that the Kentucky bill would violate the all-important Communications Decency Act. I swear I'm not making this up. The clause cited by Greiner goes on about "lewd" and "filthy" material, as if that clause was written by the PMRC.

S.B. 111 should not be an automatic windfall for everyone who feels wronged by Twitter or Facebook. But social media monopolies should be governed by the same guidelines we should expect the phone company to follow.

That the Democrats have thus far failed to support commonsense measures like this is an Achilles' heel for a party that lately has become almost all Achilles' heel. But it's mind-blowing that someone from a newspaper opposes a bill that strengthens First Amendment protections, when newspapers are supposed to be champions of a free press.

North Dakota bill would rein in Big Tech censorship

Yes! There's a bill in North Dakota to help fight Big Tech censorship! And the Democrats sadly are missing in action - as they've so often been lately.

I know firsthand that political progressives have been the main targets of Big Tech censorship. I don't mean from some small-time local con artist who kicked some kids off a BBS in 1987, but from the growing tide of censorship in the more modern Internet era. I've been subjected to it on Usenet and from Facebook, AdSense, and probably other companies. I've even written about how Google's search feature unfairly favors established media outlets - which are hardly voices of left-wing populism.

Until very recently, I would have expected that if there was a bill to combat this electronic book burning, it would be from a Democrat. But in North Dakota, it was a Republican who introduced the bill. Where are the Democrats? Defending Republicans caught up in sexting scandals? Or is it only the Ohio Democrats who defend them?

The bill was drafted last month and would enable North Dakota residents to sue Big Tech giants over censorship. Why is this so important? It's because these platforms are similar in some ways to utilities like the phone company. Should Cincinnati Bell or AT&T be allowed to yank service from political dissidents? (Given Cincinnati Bellyache's wiretap scandal, I'm sure they've tried.)

One of the dangers of Big Tech censorship is that it allows tech giants to manipulate and distort information - even defame innocent parties.

Some observers say that if the bill becomes law, it would likely be challenged in court. It's not entirely clear why a bill that strengthens free speech would be challenged as unconstitutional. Some attack the bill, saying it would violate the Communications Decency Act.

The Communications Decency Act??? Really??? What century is this again??? I almost expected to find the complaints coming from some right-wing preacher out of 1981.

There are politicians of both major parties who want to repeal the hated Section 230 of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, which gives legal cover to irresponsible Internet firms, but the North Dakota bill would not violate Section 230.

The problem of techies with an out-of-touch, elitist agenda filtering the flow of ideas isn't entirely new. But in the past dozen years, the rise of social media has taken it to new heights. It might be packaged differently now, but it's the same old bag of shit as before.
