New York's war on the homeless continues

It's hard to believe it's been over 30 years since Phil Collins sang, "Think twice, 'cause it's another day for you and me in paradise." That was a popular song about the plight of the homeless. Sadly, our "leaders" haven't learned a damn thing since then and have done nothing but double down on failed punitive approaches.

In the United States, it's more true in big cities than in small towns. This shows that COVID and gentrification aren't the only crises that have been handled worse in urban areas. The burgeoning fascism of our cities doesn't exactly help the cause of abolishing the electoral college.

New York City has proven itself a leader at this right-wing tyranny. The city has been hamstrung by a string of inept mayors for at least a generation, and the incompetence shows no sign of slowing down under Mayor Eric Adams.

Adams has now announced that the city will begin removing homeless people from subways each night, citing the public's fear of subways. The city says it will strictly enforce rules targeted at the homeless. "No more just doing whatever you want," the mayor sniffed at a press conference with the despicable New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. Yep, I know that when I want to do whatever I want, I go to a city that's suffered under some of the most authoritarian mayors in America of the past 30 years.

Advocates for homeless people have rightly blasted the plan – especially in the light of the fact that city won't try to ensure affordable housing. They also raised concerns about the expansion of a 1999 state law that lets courts force people into psychiatric "treatment." A 2005 analysis of the law said it was found to be racially discriminatory, and 85% of those who received court orders had no history of violence.

The plan even reverses a 2020 directive that limited the use of police to deal with the homeless.

This is while Adams is proposing slashing $215 million from the city's already-ruined public schools.

This is also while most of the country – including parts of large cities – is treated as a dependency of a rich, powerful elite based in our major cities that lately has showcased its incompetence as never before.

School administrator guilty of mail fraud

America's political leadership is almost singularly dedicated to defending crime like this.

On Wednesday, a former school administrator in Little Rock, Arkansas, pleaded guilty to mail fraud for wasting school district funds for her personal shopping expenses. She squandered over $230,000 on the district's credit cards – money that was supposed to be for children in early childhood programs.

From 2014-18, the administrator wosted school funds on these items...

• Over $4,000 on a recliner, bath rugs, and other goodies from Wayfair.

• Over $27,000 on 83 unauthorized purchases from PayPal.

• Almost $200,000 on 2,462 items from Amazon, including housewares, cosmetics, clothes, gift cards, pet products, and knitting materials.

The purchases were made using 2 credit cards funded by state and federal grants – i.e., the taxpayers. She was caught when she was found to be submitting "fabricated receipts and false transaction logs."

She must now pay restitution – in addition to the real sentencing that will take place at a later date.

This story is yet another cog in the revolving door that defines the crime wave that is the American school system.

Another airline merger likely to be rubber-stamped

Because this is a day ending in 'y', yet another airline merger is about to be rubber-stamped. This time, it's the "low-cost" airlines Spirit and Frontier. (I put "low-cost" in quotes for a reason. It's just like how I put "discount" in quotes when talking about "discount" stores like Kmart.)

Business "experts" worry that the Biden administration might scuttle the merger. They grumble that the administration's view is that "big is bad." Huh? The Biden regime has been as friendly to greedy corporations as any other recent presidential administration.

You can bet your bizcream that airlines will soon be demanding another taxpayer-funded bailout, even after the airlines' own actions contributed to their steep loss of business over the past 2 years. And Congress will give it to them too.

Civilians killed in raid in Syria

This is more proof that Bush Republicans have taken over the Democrats. Just as more Democrats are taking authoritarian chamber of commerce positions on domestic policy, they're also becoming war hawks.

In Syria's Idlib province, a U.S. special operations forces raid has killed 13 people – including many women and children who were not terrorists or enemy combatants.

Nearby residents say the overnight raid included a "barrage of attacks" and that helicopters hovered over a house for 2 hours before special forces stormed it. This news comes just months after a U.S. strike in Afghanistan killed 10, including some children.

Yet the Pentagon and the Biden regime are taking a victory lap over this botched raid.

Meanwhile, the media is beating the war drum in Ukraine. See, folks, I didn't call them "the right-wing media" for nothing.

The 'Sesame Street'/'Beavis And Butt-Head' connection ('Sesame Street' Wednesday)

Recognize this voice?

That's a disclaimer that MTV used to run before 'Beavis And Butt-Head'. It was instituted following a typical moral panic over the show's content.

But listen to the voice again.

I'm 95% sure that's Emilio Delgado, who played Luis on 'Sesame Street'. In fact, it's been rumored for a long time. It's just never been confirmed.

I did find a brief online bio of Delgado that says he did voice-over work, but it didn't specify whether it was for MTV. I recall that one time decades ago, I was watching MTV, and they ran a small bumper whose voice-over sounded familiar. I said something like, "That sounds like Luis from 'Sesame Street'." A family member said in reply something like, "Whatever." It was as if they knew it sounded like Luis but just didn't want to admit it, for fear it would touch off a big conversation about the ol' Ses.

Indiana bill would stop schools from silencing parents who win settlements

This is a serious story, so wipe that smirk off your face.

We all know that schools are legally almost untouchable. They not only have allies in our court system but will also retaliate against anyone who fights them. For decades, much of our political "leadership" has dedicated themselves to protecting bad schools. This is their whole identity. It's a second skin to them.

WFYI in Indianapolis reported on a shocking story that plagues America's schools. While federal laws like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act are supposed to protect the rights of disabled schoolchildren, parents can be silenced if they win a case under these laws. Schools often force parents to sign a nondisclosure or confidentiality agreement as part of the settlement. Because of this, the school's evildoing is never exposed. Families are afraid of violating the agreement if they warn others about the school's misconduct.

This is in addition to the recent trend of schools, unethical lawyers, and other scoundrels conniving to use IDEA and the ADA for the opposite purpose of what was intended by defending COVID protocols that exclude many disabled students from school. Schools never cared about these laws before, but their whole world lights up now that they've started to twist the laws to defend discrimination. Some of the lawyers involved have side projects that are also scams, such as a phony ministry that makes the most scandal-tainted televangelist look like the cleanest choirboy in comparison. The ACLU today is not the ACLU we once supported, and it too has gotten in on this grift. The ACLU has become controlled opposition that defies its original commitment to civil liberties.

But now there's a bill in Indiana that would prohibit school districts from making parents sign confidentiality or nondisclosure agreements following disputes regarding education of disabled children. If it passes, it would likely make Indiana the first state in the country with such a law. The Indiana House has approved the bill already.

This bill would offer some much-needed protection to children with disabilities. Yet opponents whine that the bill could result in more due process requests by parents. Good. It should. The ADA and IDEA don't work if people don't use them for their proper purpose.

If you haven't been paying attention the past couple years, you may be surprised to learn that the bill was introduced by a Republican. Lately, the Democrats have adopted defense of bad schools as a centerpiece of their agenda. This classist, ableist identity is no longer reserved for Reagan/Bush Republicans or just a fringe slice of Democrats. The Democrats are fighting against this bill like there's no tomorrow.

Schools are among the most fascist institutions in America. That's why they need to have their wings clipped too every now and then. In my America, they don't get to keep abusing their power to destroy lives.
