My COVID experience

I am almost 100% certain I had COVID-19 over the past week – from roughly Saturday to Wednesday. It was almost certainly the Omicron variant – like 99% of recent U.S. cases.

I had COVID despite being fully vaccinated. On the other hand, some agencies and politicians in the U.S. have already declared the virus to be endemic. I've felt since last May that it has reached the endemic phase.

As the outbreak is at a much milder stage than in the spring of 2020, I managed to avoid a severe outcome, despite a litany of risky underlying health conditions. At worst, I felt mildly under the weather. It felt like the mildest cold I've ever had. In my case, it was like a cold without the worst symptoms such as the characteristic sore throat or severe congestion. But a runny nose loomed large.

Like other diseases, this novel coronavirus has sadly left its trail of death. But that trail gets narrower and narrower as the virus joins its cousins as just another of the many viruses we were already forced to battle.
