A bunch of people were afraid of rap

This is hilarious!

There's a radio station in Milwaukee bearing the call letters WKTI. It used to be a really big station. I don't think there are any really big stations anymore, because people hardly listen to radio anymore, but WKTI apparently was a big deal over 30 years ago.

Anybip, back in 1991, WKTI was softening its music mix considerably. This was a trend for stations all over America back then, and it meant that the station was banishing rap music from its playlist. WKTI ran a TV commercial bragging of its anti-rap stance.

The most unintentionally funny part of this ad was the woman blasting WKTI's main competitor: "102 has rap!" She got this horrified look on her face as she mentioned rap, and her tone was one of fear and disgust.

That ad is up on YouTube...

I can maintain my integrity by embedding that clip, because WKTI as it existed back then is gone. WKTI now has a sports format (even though it's FM).

This commersh was downright humiliating for WKTI, and the station declined for years thereafter.
