Conservafool only vote against stronger animal cruelty law

Who with any decency would tolerate those who torture dogs and cats just for fun?

Kentucky State Sen. Dick Roeding doesn't count - because he has no decency. The GOP legislator got a Conservative Fool Of The Day entry on the old blog because he blamed the Democrats for the patronage corruption of the now-defeated Gov. Ernie "Hey Bert" Fletcher, a Republican. Later, Roeding attacked the Log Cabin Republicans, calling them "a bunch of queers."

How adult contemporary of you, Dick.

Now Roeding is the only state senator to vote against a tougher law on animal cruelty. The bill would make it a felony to torture cats or dogs, and it passed 36 to 1 - with the 1 being Roeding.

It's unclear what Roeding's excuse for opposing stronger penalties for animal abusers is. Being too familiar with the inane doctrine of conservafoolery, I can guess: He'll probably claim it's because he's for smaller government - even though he supports the draconian law that makes people sign a log just to buy cold medicine. Maybe the real reason he opposes stricter laws on torturing animals is that he wants Bill Frist to be able to move to Kentucky with impunity.

For much of my lifetime, northern Kentucky - more so than any other region of the state - has elected right-wing state legislators like Roeding who have built a reputation of being unbending advocates of idiocy. Instead of focusing on projects for constituents, they more often push ideological agendas - on culture war issues and economic matters alike.

This is why northern Kentucky was the only area in the state that didn't have a community college until just the past few years. (It had a university, but this didn't meet the needs of many. Besides, NKU has a history of going out of its way to pursue right-wing causes to appease these lawmakers.) It is because of local lawmakers being obstructionists.

At least now Roeding's attempted obstruction of the animal cruelty bill consists of only one vote.
