Good riddance again, Mel

Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Florida) has long been one of the most worthless senators. This is the clod who attacked populism as a "virus" and insisted that Taliban members be part of Afghanistan's new government.

It was already known that Martinez wouldn't be seeking a second term in 2010, but now he's resigned outright.

As with Sarah Palin and Trent Lott, one can't help but have suspicions about Martinez's sudden resignation. Then again, this resignation could just be because GOP bosses want to give their party a leg up in the next election (considering Martinez's astounding unpopularity). Or maybe they want to build a Bush shadow government by letting Jeb Bush be appointed to this seat until the next election.
