Iraq to introduce Internet censorship

Hi, government censorship. How's it hangin'?

When the Bush regime installed a new government in Iraq, did you truly expect this new government to pay any heed to the free flow of ideas? Predictably, suppression of dissent has been a hallmark of the new puppet regime in Iraq.

Now Iraq is tackling the Internet. Sameer al-Hasoon of Iraq's communications ministry told the AP that all websites that "violate social morals" will be outlawed.

Free speech advocates are quite rightly outraged. Not only because of the censors' moral panic but also because it's clearly a foundation for political censorship.

Under these new laws, ISP's and Internet cafes will be required to obtain licenses that will be subject to cancellation if they don't block content.

"But they're freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!"
