Ever eager for votes, John McCain says there'll be no new taxes if he's somehow elected President. In an interview broadcast today, Mini-Me said, "No new taxes."
Gee, where have I heard that before?
Oh yes, it was Mad Dog Bush's "read my lips" promise from 1988 that he broke. This was yet another reason why Dukakis voters were telling the Bush crime family's followers "we told you so" 4 years later.
So if people buy this bullshit when McAin't utters it, they've got really short memories.
Since McCain shows no desire to end the war, why doesn't anyone ask how he intends to pay for it? Does McAin't have a magic money tree like Reagan tried to make people think he had?
McCain's pledge contradicts one he made just a few months ago. Earlier, McCain promised to support the misnamed FairTax, a confiscatory national sales tax that in this form would be 23%. This tax was designed to shift the tax burden to the poor and working class, and that's why it's been a cause celebre of the Far Right. Mike Huckabee has made the UnfairTax a centerpiece of his campaign, and it also gained support from Republicans Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, and Tommy Thompson, and Democrat Mike Gravel in their ill-fated campaigns. (Now you know why no one takes Gravel seriously.) Republican Fred Thompson also pledged to support FairTax, but later denied it.
Here's a message for the Republicans. Read my lips: Kiss my ass.

Your such a smooth talker, I just had to respond. You don't soumd either very happy or educated about the FairTax, but it's your blog so what the heck.
ReplyDeleteIn other words - McCain was for raising taxes before he was against it.
ReplyDeleteBarack needs to just hammer him on this.
