Back in my day, a neighbor kid suggested sticking a wad of bubble gum over a helium pump to see if it would inflate.
He bragged that his parents had a hydrogen pump, but we decided against using it, because hydrogen is flammable and not something kids should be playing around with.
Now, thanks to the miracle of YouPube, we can finally see the results of inflating bubble gum with lighter-than-air gases.
Usually, this feature profiles an old gum commercial, but the clip in this week's installment is not an ad. But in some respects, I guess it is. That's because gum is so hilarious that people go out and buy it every time they see it in any context.
This video features people inhaling helium and then bubbling, enabling them to float about:
For the record, this is a very dangerous activity. You never know what obstacles might be in the way, and if the bubble bursts in midair, you fall plumb to the ground.
But imagine the reaction of the people crossing that bridge in the clip, as the guy blows a bubble and floats overhead. If you were driving across the Big Mac and saw a person bubbling and bouncing up and down on the bridge, what would you think?
