Hate group says it has "right" to discriminate

As a society, we can all agree that discrimination should not go unchallenged. Let's start with that principle.

A proposal by Ohio lawmakers would prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The Republicans are against this bill, of course.

But one of the driving forces in opposition to the bill is Citizens for Community Values, a Cincinnati-area hate group. And believe me, CCV is nothing but a bunch of haters. The group's past actions prove this.

CCV opposes this bill for a particularly idiotic reason. CCV cries that this bill would discriminate against employers whose religion obligates them to hate gays.

Too. Fucking. Bad.

This is the same bogus argument that's been used by extremists all over America to gut anti-discrimination laws.

Ever hear of the saying that your right to swing your fist ends where someone else's nose begins? If a person's religion obligates them to eat babies, does that mean we have to legalize baby eating?

Contrary to what the hate industry will tell you, religious freedom does not mean that employers who are members of bigoted cults that obligate them to have discriminatory hiring practices get to impose their religion on prospective workers. CCV's view is as much economic elitism as it is a religious issue. Elites have created their own sects and dogmas just to provide an excuse for discrimination, thereby keeping everyone else down.

It's just like how some of these "faith-based" conservatives believe they can find a religious justification for economic policies that rob the poor to help the rich.

The First Amendment was never intended to allow elites to hide behind religion to impose their views on others. But with the extreme right filling America's judicial seats, I think we may be near the point where we need a constitutional amendment that says nothing in the First Amendment shall be construed to allow religion to be used as an excuse for discrimination.

  1. What religion is CCV? They certainly are not Christian. I don't know of any major world religion that 'obligates' discrimination.

  2. The bible mandates discrimination against gays. I would consider christianity a "major world religion." Also, you are committing the "no-true-Scotsman" fallacy by claiming you get to choose who is "christian" and who is not.

  3. Where exactly is that mandate, Yetti? I'd like to look it up.
