Today at Kroger, some woman bubbled.

Comic Book Guy goes Krogering

Earlier, I received an e-mail declaring that a person who resembled Comic Book Guy from 'The Simpsons' was seen at a Kroger. He was even wearing a 'Star Wars' hoodie!

The e-mail also said Casey Kasem mentioned 'Sesame Street' in a rebroadcast of an 'American Top 40' from 1973. He made reference to "a Muppet called Ernie."

In addition, the e-mail said a person bubbled conspicuously and with extreme dispatch at a local park.

A person got mad because Elon Musk doesn't have a master's degree

Using literacy tests to disqualify voters was an ugly chapter in American history. But the mindset that drove this requirement lives on in the credentialism that defines America's elites today.

Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter is an improvement over the previous disastrous state of affairs, but if we just go by raw measures, it would be a wash. Musk is a billionaire, but he has no master's degree. I only oppose the billionaire part – not the part about not having a master's degree.

Some nobody posted on Twitter that Musk "doesn't even have a Master's degree. Is that who we are going to trust with the future of our democracy?" Guess what? I don't have a master's degree either.

The elites say it's just fine for billionaires to buy up entire venues – as long as they have a master's degree. Maybe people with higher education levels should be disqualified from positions of power – because they didn't exactly handle the pandemic very well.

People are right to be wary of a billionaire owning Twitter. But who do you think owned it before Elon Musk did? The Last Word?

More "vote blue no matter who" hypocrisy

Democratic blogs have long urged folks to "vote blue no matter who." That's their bag, I guess, and I could tolerate it before these blogs sold out their principles in the name of fighting the pandemic. Appeasing wealthy donors who acted in bad faith and supported a bio-juche dictatorship was more important than principles to them.

But recent developments have shown that these blogs don't even abide by their own "vote blue" maxim.

Visit any shitlib blog of the "vote blue no matter who" strain lately, and you'll see they spend more time attacking Democrats than fascist Republicans like Mitt Romney. One of their biggest targets lately is Tulsi Gabbard, who is the topic of endless red-baiting. If the next presidential election is Romney versus Gabbard, you know damn well they'll support Romney. Another Democratic target over the past couple years is Virginia State Sen. Chap Petersen – thanks to his rather consistent opposition to the COVID police state. The shitlib blogosphere has actually tried to recruit a challenger to Petersen.

I wanted to see what Daily Kos said about Utah Democrats supporting Evan McMullin for Senate. Naturally, the Kos Kids are praising the move.

In other words, perhaps the biggest "vote blue no matter who" blog out there has rejected Democrats like Gabbard and Petersen - but embraced a right-winger like McMullin over an actual Democrat.

Do they even realize how ridiculous they sound?

Illinois school district punished students over MySpace posts (a blast from the past)

How out of control were the autocratic ghouls who run our school systems back in the 2000s? Almost as out of control as they are now.

My Big Cleaning yielded a story about the fascism practiced by schools in Libertyville, Illinois, in 2006. The school system declared that students would be punished if they used MySpace or other websites to depict under-age drinking or other "illegal or inappropriate behavior" – even if these posts were not made from school or using school resources, and even if the content was completely unconnected to school. Even if they made these posts from their own home, they would be disciplined.

Students were required to sign a pledge agreeing that such content would be grounds for punishment. The school district vowed to follow up on tips alerting them to these posts.

School officials sound like big Democrats to me. I bet they wrote letters demanding lockdowns.

More Tommy Thompson right-wing extremism (a blast from the past)

Tommy Thompson is one of these fascists from 20 years ago who now seems to be among the Democrats' favorite Republicans – ever since the propellerheads switched parties and traded their Wall Street business suits for Silicon Valley underpants.

Thompson is the right-wing 4-term former Governor of Wisconsin and Secretary of Health and Human Services in the George W. Bush thugocracy. He ran for President in 2008 but was forced out of the running after making a series of anti-Semitic remarks. Most recently, Thompson humiliated himself through his actions as interim president of the University of Wisconsin System.

As my Big Cleaning gets under way, I found a folder full of news stories on my computer dating back over 20 years that I never got to cover – because our rulers would always outdo themselves by doing something even stupider. In 2002, Thompson – while he was part of the Bush regime – announced that the government would oppose labeling of genetically engineered frankenfoods. "Mandatory labeling will only frighten consumers," he told a biotech gathering. Boo! He went on to say, "Labeling implies that biotechnology products are unsafe.'' Uh. Aren't they?

That was after 19 countries already required labeling.

This was also when Bush planned to move 300 workers from HHS to the Department of Homeland Security – a department that to this day has accomplished nothing positive.

As HHS head, Thompson succeeded Donna Shalala, who helped to nearly ruin the Democrats' electoral chances in 2020 with her vanity congressional campaign. Shalala brang her own extremism to the fore, which ultimately wasn't much different from Thompson's recent travails. Republican hero worship of big corporations 20 years ago was borne of the same bad intentions as Democratic support for corporations today.

Because frankenfoods were not labeled, American consumers remained in the dark for years thereafter. It wasn't until 2016 that Congress passed a law to try to give people more information on what they put into their bodies. The labels did not appear until this year, and some confusion still reigns. To add insult to injury, an NPR story about the labels repeated a false claim that there's no evidence that genetically engineered crops are harmful to humans.

Why should the media be trusted on any issue if they amplify outright lies like that in plain sight?

Bubbling season has sprung

Today, a person walking up the street bubbled a humongous bub.

Utah Democrats back Evan McMullin for Senate

The Democratic Party as we once knew it has essentially ceased to exist.

Utah Democrats had a candidate to challenge Republican Sen. Mike Lee in November. It's not as if Democrats in Utah are better than anywhere else, as they hopelessly botched the COVID response in the Salt Lake City area – but then again, Republicans botched it to an extent in the rest of the state. But now Utah Democrats have voted at their convention to ditch the Democratic candidate for Senate and instead support independent Evan McMullin.

McMullin ran for President in 2016, painting himself as a "respectable" conservative, in contrast to Donald Trump. By all accounts, McMullin is no progressive, and he probably wouldn't have been a major Democratic candidate 30 years ago. The Democrats back then were enough of a big tent party that they might have nominated candidates of differing policy stances – but not someone who flat-out wasn't a Democrat.

Any Utah voter who is legitimately a Democrat or outside the conservative fold is now finding themselves with no candidate to vote for. Of course, with the Democratic Party being the twisted mess it is now, this isn't unique to Utah, as Democratic candidates have inched more and more into what would have been considered right-wing authoritarianism just a few years ago. I'm also accustomed to local races where there is often no Democratic candidate, because corrupt Democratic party bosses often make backroom deals with the Republicans to let the GOP run unopposed. This story also reminds me of that congressional race in Hawaii some years ago where right-wing Democrats fielded their own candidate to split the Democratic vote and "prove" that more liberal candidates couldn't win. But at least these events aren't such an obvious concession as what happened in Utah where the Democrats actually backed a separate conservative candidacy of someone who isn't even a Democrat.

Democratic "leaders" don't give a damn about anyone except themselves and their corporate allies.

My, my, my Bologna...

China's ruling regime has long been a darling of the American media, which possesses a deep-seated love of authoritarian governments and policies. In the past few years, China has become known for what's called a social credit system – which is a bit like the hated practice of credit scores, but instead of focusing on economic activity, it punishes people if their behavior is not considered virtuous. It involves widespread mass surveillance.

Now the Italian city of Bologna is becoming the first place in the Western world to introduce a social credit system for its citizenry. It has been speculated that it may soon be the rule throughout all of Italy.

Bologna officials call it a "smart citizen wallet" that awards "digital points" based on a person's conduct, especially if the person "does not receive sanctions from the municipal authority."

Think it won't happen in America? Remember, the system of credit scores that we have – which effectively confers titles of nobility - only dates to the late 1980s. Americans in the 1970s probably never thought that oppressive system could happen.

Hochul pollster helped Amazon anti-worker effort

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is one of the most evil major politicians in America. Though the Democratic Party is often associated with labor union support, party brass has shown itself to be allied only with unions that are corrupt – like the teachers' unions that have connived to keep America's schools closed and deny children an education, or other crooked unions that have sided with chamber of commerce groups and the World Economic Forum in supporting the fascist "new normal."

The people we are talking about above are not simply misguided. They are bad people.

Workers at an Amazon warehouse in Staten Island recently voted in favor of forming a union, making it the online retailer's first unionized facility. Yet Democratic leaders fought against this unionization drive, because the union didn't pledge to support the "new normal."

Jeffrey Pollock's Global Strategy Group - the main pollster for Hochul and other Democrats - helped prepare the company's anti-union literature. Hochul's campaign committee paid this pollster $123,000 for services for months after she became governor. Pollock was also a longtime Hochul consultant and served as a pollster for the disgraced Andrew Cuomo. Pollock helped Cuomo fight against sexual harassment allegations.

It isn't just these individual disgraced politicians. The state Democratic Party, Democratic Governors' Association, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and other Democratic groups used Pollock's firm too.

It isn't the entire party, of course. U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi, who is challenging Hochul in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, said the scandal represents "typical Hochul hypocrisy." Suspiciously, congressional Democrats launched an inquiry against Suozzi after he decided to challenge Hochul.

What a disgrace the party has become. I never would have joined the local Young Democrats when I was in college if I knew the party would be this bad now. The corruption, totalitarianism, and anti-worker activity we're seeing from the Democrats now is the sort of thing we used to rightly attribute to Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

Right-wing whining about taxes blasts apart GOP

It's breathtaking that anyone can grumble that the rich are paying too much in taxes and expect to be taken seriously. Yet this complaint has guided the Republican Party for 30 years.

Now, however, even Republican heavy hitters are starting to sour on this stale whine.

Mike Gibbons – a Republican millionaire who is running for Senate in Ohio – griped at a media event that middle-class Americans don't pay "any kind of a fair share" of income taxes, while the rich pay too much. Gibbons said the idea that the rich are winning out at the expense of the middle class is "absolutely false."

Gibbons's hinting that taxes should be raised on the middle class but not the rich has been assailed by the rest of the Republican field in the Senate primary. One rival even called Gibbons "Tax Hike Mike." Some of these Republicans have also opposed national GOP plans to raise taxes on the middle class.

Of course, I'm guessing the Democrats support Gibbons – just like how they keep praising Mike DeWine and calling those who oppose him fascists. The totalitarian Bush-era right-wing extremism that crushed the poor and working class still exists to some degree within both major parties, but in the past couple years, it's taken over the Democrats to the same extent that it ruled the Republicans for decades before. Bill Kristol becoming a Democrat wasn't a good sign for the party. Just days ago, a Reddit commenter said the Democrats "are the kings at being handed a fucking gift and dropping it off a cliff." The Democrats seizing the mantle as the party of Wall Street, incompetent technocrats, bullies, and incels sums up their tendency to squander a political bonanza. The Democrats' refusal to condemn Gibbons speaks volumes.

If the jackboot fits, wear it, Dems. And if it feels good, put it on.

Local man dies in psychiatric prison

Psychiatric facilities long ago forfeited the privilege of being called hospitals, as these institutions behaved more like prisons. People confined there are not generally criminals, but they are punished harshly. In fact, these places have often become death camps. If the jackboot fits, wear it.

In November, a 48-year-old Fort Thomas man was killed after being restrained at a northern Kentucky psychiatric prison. He was pinned to the ground for 4 minutes after being injected with drugs he was allergic to. This occurred when he tried exiting the facility. He was followed outside by almost a dozen guards, who then ambushed and restrained him.

Press reports indicate that staffers then lied to the man's wife about the cause of death.

Now the man's family has filed a wrongful death suit.

This follows a 2016 lawsuit by the family of an Alzheimer's disease patient.

Psychiatric abuse is as old as psychiatry itself. Sadly, the media has never made it a priority to expose it. Everything else is considered a crisis – as long as they can make money off fear. But not this.

Nazi Klansman University gets humiliated

My experience with Northern Kentucky University pisses me off to no end!

Amid a higher education racket full of schemes and scams, NKU stands Head & Shoulders above so many other offenders. I went to school there in the 1990s, and it's even worse now than it was then.

Today I went up to campus to make a brief documentary video of just how much it's declined...

The campus is totally dead. I at least enjoyed some social activities when I went to school there. They had that lawn where people gathered and put out blankets. Now there's nothing for today's students. It's just dead.

What a disgrace.

A bunch of people were afraid of rap

This is hilarious!

There's a radio station in Milwaukee bearing the call letters WKTI. It used to be a really big station. I don't think there are any really big stations anymore, because people hardly listen to radio anymore, but WKTI apparently was a big deal over 30 years ago.

Anybip, back in 1991, WKTI was softening its music mix considerably. This was a trend for stations all over America back then, and it meant that the station was banishing rap music from its playlist. WKTI ran a TV commercial bragging of its anti-rap stance.

The most unintentionally funny part of this ad was the woman blasting WKTI's main competitor: "102 has rap!" She got this horrified look on her face as she mentioned rap, and her tone was one of fear and disgust.

That ad is up on YouTube...

I can maintain my integrity by embedding that clip, because WKTI as it existed back then is gone. WKTI now has a sports format (even though it's FM).

This commersh was downright humiliating for WKTI, and the station declined for years thereafter.

Census schooled about college miscount

America's higher education system has become a big racket, and nothing has highlighted what a scam it is like the past 2 years have.

After the way colleges and universities have treated their students lately, we have every right to see these institutions punished accordingly – not rewarded. You can't unsee how bad these schools have become. I have zero faith in most of academia now. The actions of our colleges are not recognizably compatible with a liberal democracy.

But they're rakin' in the rewards!

The 2020 census took place in April 2020 – the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The census is supposed to reflect America's population as of April 1, 2020. But the U.S. Census Bureau had a policy that guaranteed colleges would be overcounted. Under this policy, students are counted "where they would have been living and sleeping" on April 1 had their schools not closed down and sent everyone home because of COVID.

So it's not even accurate. Instead of counting students where they actually lived, the census counted them as living on campus or elsewhere in their college community, even though they were sent home by then – and many have not returned. Had they not been sent home, there would have been a reason to count them as living in their college town. Instead, they were counted as part of college communities that had ceased to exist for the time being.

Many of these colleges and their surrounding towns have not recovered. Each of the past couple years, colleges have predicted record enrollment because of a backlog of students who were forced out in 2020 returning. But this record enrollment never comes, as many students don't come back. After all, why should they?

In cities, towns, and counties all over America, an accurate census is critical to funding decisions and political representation. Yet – with the census overcounting college communities - the classist elites who run our institutions of higher book-burnin' are getting funds meant for elsewhere. These are the same elites who have made many of the disastrous decisions of the past 2 years. America outside of college towns will face severe shortfalls in public funds and political power.

But some students actually were properly counted as living at home. To combat this proper count, some colleges wanted the Census Bureau to conduct a special census in the fall of 2020 so students could be counted as living in their college town. The problem for schools then was that so many schools decided to operate like prisons, so a lot of students didn't return.

To fight the overcount of college towns, the government should reissue the results of the 2020 census with revised numbers. Redistricting of legislative seats should reflect this.

Those of us outside college towns are victims not only of classism and credentialism but also taxation without representation.

There must also be punishment for those in charge of our colleges and universities who have been responsible for the atrocities of the past 2 years. They must never be allowed to serve in a position of trust ever again. They must be replaced by people who do their jobs right.

New York's war on the homeless continues

It's hard to believe it's been over 30 years since Phil Collins sang, "Think twice, 'cause it's another day for you and me in paradise." That was a popular song about the plight of the homeless. Sadly, our "leaders" haven't learned a damn thing since then and have done nothing but double down on failed punitive approaches.

In the United States, it's more true in big cities than in small towns. This shows that COVID and gentrification aren't the only crises that have been handled worse in urban areas. The burgeoning fascism of our cities doesn't exactly help the cause of abolishing the electoral college.

New York City has proven itself a leader at this right-wing tyranny. The city has been hamstrung by a string of inept mayors for at least a generation, and the incompetence shows no sign of slowing down under Mayor Eric Adams.

Adams has now announced that the city will begin removing homeless people from subways each night, citing the public's fear of subways. The city says it will strictly enforce rules targeted at the homeless. "No more just doing whatever you want," the mayor sniffed at a press conference with the despicable New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. Yep, I know that when I want to do whatever I want, I go to a city that's suffered under some of the most authoritarian mayors in America of the past 30 years.

Advocates for homeless people have rightly blasted the plan – especially in the light of the fact that city won't try to ensure affordable housing. They also raised concerns about the expansion of a 1999 state law that lets courts force people into psychiatric "treatment." A 2005 analysis of the law said it was found to be racially discriminatory, and 85% of those who received court orders had no history of violence.

The plan even reverses a 2020 directive that limited the use of police to deal with the homeless.

This is while Adams is proposing slashing $215 million from the city's already-ruined public schools.

This is also while most of the country – including parts of large cities – is treated as a dependency of a rich, powerful elite based in our major cities that lately has showcased its incompetence as never before.

School administrator guilty of mail fraud

America's political leadership is almost singularly dedicated to defending crime like this.

On Wednesday, a former school administrator in Little Rock, Arkansas, pleaded guilty to mail fraud for wasting school district funds for her personal shopping expenses. She squandered over $230,000 on the district's credit cards – money that was supposed to be for children in early childhood programs.

From 2014-18, the administrator wosted school funds on these items...

• Over $4,000 on a recliner, bath rugs, and other goodies from Wayfair.

• Over $27,000 on 83 unauthorized purchases from PayPal.

• Almost $200,000 on 2,462 items from Amazon, including housewares, cosmetics, clothes, gift cards, pet products, and knitting materials.

The purchases were made using 2 credit cards funded by state and federal grants – i.e., the taxpayers. She was caught when she was found to be submitting "fabricated receipts and false transaction logs."

She must now pay restitution – in addition to the real sentencing that will take place at a later date.

This story is yet another cog in the revolving door that defines the crime wave that is the American school system.

Another airline merger likely to be rubber-stamped

Because this is a day ending in 'y', yet another airline merger is about to be rubber-stamped. This time, it's the "low-cost" airlines Spirit and Frontier. (I put "low-cost" in quotes for a reason. It's just like how I put "discount" in quotes when talking about "discount" stores like Kmart.)

Business "experts" worry that the Biden administration might scuttle the merger. They grumble that the administration's view is that "big is bad." Huh? The Biden regime has been as friendly to greedy corporations as any other recent presidential administration.

You can bet your bizcream that airlines will soon be demanding another taxpayer-funded bailout, even after the airlines' own actions contributed to their steep loss of business over the past 2 years. And Congress will give it to them too.

Civilians killed in raid in Syria

This is more proof that Bush Republicans have taken over the Democrats. Just as more Democrats are taking authoritarian chamber of commerce positions on domestic policy, they're also becoming war hawks.

In Syria's Idlib province, a U.S. special operations forces raid has killed 13 people – including many women and children who were not terrorists or enemy combatants.

Nearby residents say the overnight raid included a "barrage of attacks" and that helicopters hovered over a house for 2 hours before special forces stormed it. This news comes just months after a U.S. strike in Afghanistan killed 10, including some children.

Yet the Pentagon and the Biden regime are taking a victory lap over this botched raid.

Meanwhile, the media is beating the war drum in Ukraine. See, folks, I didn't call them "the right-wing media" for nothing.

The 'Sesame Street'/'Beavis And Butt-Head' connection ('Sesame Street' Wednesday)

Recognize this voice?

That's a disclaimer that MTV used to run before 'Beavis And Butt-Head'. It was instituted following a typical moral panic over the show's content.

But listen to the voice again.

I'm 95% sure that's Emilio Delgado, who played Luis on 'Sesame Street'. In fact, it's been rumored for a long time. It's just never been confirmed.

I did find a brief online bio of Delgado that says he did voice-over work, but it didn't specify whether it was for MTV. I recall that one time decades ago, I was watching MTV, and they ran a small bumper whose voice-over sounded familiar. I said something like, "That sounds like Luis from 'Sesame Street'." A family member said in reply something like, "Whatever." It was as if they knew it sounded like Luis but just didn't want to admit it, for fear it would touch off a big conversation about the ol' Ses.

Indiana bill would stop schools from silencing parents who win settlements

This is a serious story, so wipe that smirk off your face.

We all know that schools are legally almost untouchable. They not only have allies in our court system but will also retaliate against anyone who fights them. For decades, much of our political "leadership" has dedicated themselves to protecting bad schools. This is their whole identity. It's a second skin to them.

WFYI in Indianapolis reported on a shocking story that plagues America's schools. While federal laws like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act are supposed to protect the rights of disabled schoolchildren, parents can be silenced if they win a case under these laws. Schools often force parents to sign a nondisclosure or confidentiality agreement as part of the settlement. Because of this, the school's evildoing is never exposed. Families are afraid of violating the agreement if they warn others about the school's misconduct.

This is in addition to the recent trend of schools, unethical lawyers, and other scoundrels conniving to use IDEA and the ADA for the opposite purpose of what was intended by defending COVID protocols that exclude many disabled students from school. Schools never cared about these laws before, but their whole world lights up now that they've started to twist the laws to defend discrimination. Some of the lawyers involved have side projects that are also scams, such as a phony ministry that makes the most scandal-tainted televangelist look like the cleanest choirboy in comparison. The ACLU today is not the ACLU we once supported, and it too has gotten in on this grift. The ACLU has become controlled opposition that defies its original commitment to civil liberties.

But now there's a bill in Indiana that would prohibit school districts from making parents sign confidentiality or nondisclosure agreements following disputes regarding education of disabled children. If it passes, it would likely make Indiana the first state in the country with such a law. The Indiana House has approved the bill already.

This bill would offer some much-needed protection to children with disabilities. Yet opponents whine that the bill could result in more due process requests by parents. Good. It should. The ADA and IDEA don't work if people don't use them for their proper purpose.

If you haven't been paying attention the past couple years, you may be surprised to learn that the bill was introduced by a Republican. Lately, the Democrats have adopted defense of bad schools as a centerpiece of their agenda. This classist, ableist identity is no longer reserved for Reagan/Bush Republicans or just a fringe slice of Democrats. The Democrats are fighting against this bill like there's no tomorrow.

Schools are among the most fascist institutions in America. That's why they need to have their wings clipped too every now and then. In my America, they don't get to keep abusing their power to destroy lives.

Another weird dream

Just before I woke up this morning, I had another strange dream. I dreamed I was on a Brossart reunion committee, and we had a meeting. At the meeting, there was a table that had some form sitting there that you could fill out. Someone had written a bunch of stuff about 'Sesame Street' on the form, so I kept trying to take a photo of it with my smartphone.
