Congress mulls useless resolution

You know what I'm gonna do for the rest of the day? I'm just gonna sit here and not work. Instead I think I'll just sit around and write up ridiculous, meaningless resolutions. That's what Congress does all day, so why not?

Today the House is supposed to vote on a resolution "recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith." The resolution, which is a political stunt sponsored in part by right-wing Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) and other fine retailers (just joking about the retailers part), raises some red flags where separation of church and state is concerned. But the sheer uselessness of this act is what's most astounding.

Look at all the work Congress needs to do to clean up the Newt/Bush mess. Yet they're sitting around arguing about feely-bad resolutions like this that don't even do anything. Steve King once got a Conservative Fool Of The Day entry for being one of the biggest idiots in Congress, so it's obvious the whole point of his latest act is so dominionists can pound their chests and try to embarrass anyone who dares to demand that Congress take up something more meaningful. That's all it is.

If Congress passes this, what it really proves is that Congress can't rise above things. A few days ago, a group of Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs rose above religious differences by urging Christians and others to enjoy Christmas and not let it get ruined by political stunts. But Steve King is on a mission, you see. So the dour congressman won't take this advice. Like Oscar the Grouch, he has to have something to complain about to be happy.

It's just a shame that people of all religions, including Christianity, have been gagged so much by the dominionists that everyone has to relearn how to enjoy the holidays.
