Diocese sued for racketeering

Well, it's happened. As well it should.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich, Connecticut, is now being sued for racketeering because of its cover-up of sex abuse by priests. This federal suit invokes the RICO law, and the lawyer who filed the case says the National Conference of Catholic Bishops conspired with the diocese by transferring priests who were involved in sex abuse.

It's clear to me that the diocese has committed racketeering. I don't have any doubt about that. The same is true of many other dioceses all over America.

RICO cases are very difficult to win. If they were easy to win, I can name quite a few parties who should be sued under RICO (teen confinement facilities, for instance). But I hope the plaintiffs in this case emerge victorious.
