DeMint leads illegal Honduras trip

If you're still wondering why nobody outside the Free Republic circle jerk likes Jim DeMint, this story is another example of the South Carolina senator's dangerous arrogance.

DeMint is Congress's leading supporter of the illegal right-wing coup in Honduras that overthrew democratically elected President Manuel Zelaya. Now DeMint is leading a delegation of Republican lawmakers to meet dictator Roberto Micheletti and various Honduran political and business big shots.

This trip is blatantly illegal under U.S. policy - which bars contact with people involved in the coup. But DeMint still brags that he intends to use his fact-finding mission to encourage coup leaders.

Accompanying DeMint on this trip are 3 House members: Aaron Schock and Peter Roskam (both of Illinois) and Doug Lamborn (of Colorado).

These legislators need to be arrested the moment they arrive back in the United States. DeMint has stated publicly that his aim is to contradict U.S. policy. Meeting with foreign dictators for the purpose of violating U.S. policy is a serious violation of the law. It almost certainly falls under the Logan Act.

Enjoy jail, Jim.
