That promise-bustin' Congress!

Nice to know the Republican wing of the Democratic Party is in charge of Congress!

Months ago, congressional leaders promised supporters of single payer health care a vote on their reform package.

There's a consensus among the cool people who read this blog that single payer would be the best species of health care reform. Unfortunately, the DLC must have missed this memo.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now debating whether single payer will even be voted on - even though she had already promised single payer supporters a vote. Furthermore, a provision that would let states adopt a single payer system has been stripped from the House's health reform bill by Pelosi.

At least Pelosi isn't being as blatantly two-faced as the Republicans. Right-wing Rep. Mike Pence (R-Indiana) admitted that the GOP's position boils down to "states' rights for me, not for thee." When asked about it, Pence said his party's opposition to single payer outweighs the party's alleged support for states' rights.

Gee, Mike, like I didn't already know the Republicans' support for state autonomy applies only when a state wants to be conservative.
