Beatings fill Texas psych wards

The fact that the United States uses psychiatric wards to detain dissidents is bad enough, but the fact that the psychiatric industry encourages physical abuse makes it worse.

The Dallas Morning News has obtained disciplinary records showing widespread violence and other abuse in Texas's 10 state mental "hospitals." The misconduct by staffers against inmates includes beatings, chokeholds, verbal threats, racial slurs, and overmedicating. Guards often goofed off and played video games while ignoring detainees' pleas.

Just last year, Texas came under fire for pervasive physical and sexual abuse in juvenile prisons and facilities for the disabled.

Of course, the agency that runs the psychiatric "hospitals" denies they even have much of a problem, even though in 2007 alone there were 137 confirmed abuse cases. Yes, those are just the confirmed ones. Think of all the ones that were covered up.
