MySpace sociopath indicted

Maybe crime doesn't pay after all.

Remember the case of the woman in suburban Missouri who drove a 13-year-old girl to suicide by harassing her with a phony MySpace account? For a while, it looked like prosecutors had dropped the ball and that no charges would ever be filed.

But today a federal grand jury indicted the woman, who never showed remorse for her actions. She is charged with conspiracy and serious computer-related offenses for her evil hoax that she carried out after the victim wouldn't befriend her daughter.

Now the defendant denies having anything to do with the fake MySpace account. However, even the Wikipedia article about the incident says she admitted being behind it.

Also, this is the first time the federal law against accessing protected computers has ever been in used in a social networking case. Until now, it was only used for hackers.
