City tries to ban swearing in bars

If there's still any doubt that America in this decade has moved backwards, this story ought to put that shitty claim to rest.

In St. Charles, Missouri, city officials are taking a serious look at a new ordinance to ban swearing, table-dancing, drinking contests, and "indecent" music and literature from bars. That's right, in bars of all places!

And they're actually serious about enforcing the bill if it passes - which proves again how far back the country has drifted.

If there isn't a First Amendment challenge to this, I'll just eat my hat. How much harm can the music in bars possibly do to the customers? (I'm assuming the customers are all adults, since these are bars, ya know.)

Hey, here's a solution: How about if you don't like swearing and drinking, and if you think music is eeeeevil, then you just...don't go to the bars? How fucking hard is that? I don't go to country clubs, because I don't like being around people in fancy suits and dresses scoffing at us lowly peasantry. So if you don't like music and alcohol, stay away from bars. Just don't go imposing your ways on everyone else - because that's what the Republicans in the Taliban did.
