NFL sends tailgaters to sidelines

"And I guess that's why they call it the Nazi Fascist League..." (Sung to the tune of "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues.")

Just days after the National Football League trotted out its idiotic new "code of conduct" for fans inside the stadium, it's now implementing a new rule for those outside the stadium as well. The NFL has decreed that folks won't be allowed to tailgate outside the arena unless they have a ticket to the game.

Under this ukase, security must scour the parking lot and kick out anyone who doesn't have a ticket. The NFL has ruled that this shall be done at every venue that hosts an NFL team.

Why the hell should you need a ticket if you're not even inside the stadium? This is exactly like the NFL making people who watch the game at home shut off the TV if they don't have a ticket. (The greed-driven blackout rules are so stringent that they might as well.)

The NFL's excuse is that this will prevent fans from causing trouble. They fail to explain how. I think the reason for the rule is to keep people from having a good time.

The NFL's determination to take the fun out of football dates back at least to 1989 when it implemented the "Ickey Woods rule." Under this rule - prompted by Woods's hilarious dance in the end zone - players are prohibited from "excessive" celebratory performances.

There's some people who just don't like it when others have a good time. The NFL is driven by the same mentality that's led to crackdowns at festivals.

With the NFL's expanding no-fun policies, anyone who attends a game almost expects a gulag to break out.

  1. Tim! It's now after 5 o'clock and you haven't blogged about Liberal Fool of the Day John Edwards. Better hurry up and write something. And where's our report on the Democratic mayor of Detroit going to jail and facing new charges today?

  3. And by the way, why is there a double standard about reporting scandals?

If a Republican had done the same thing Edwards did, you probably would never hear about it.

Edwards was generally not the type of senator who told everyone else how to live. That's more than I can say about losers like David Vitter and Larry Craig.

  4. No excuses Tim. The People are going to call you out on your double standard for liberals.

  5. John Edwards is human at least, as this proves..which is more than we can say about B*sh.

For all you hear about the mayor of Detroit, why nothing about the several consecutive bad mayors of NYC???

  6. How does cheating on his wife while she's undergoing treatment for cancer make John Edwards "human"?

  7. If it appears there is a double standard favoring the liberal side, maybe I can explain it further.

It is the conservative side that for years has been telling everyone else how to behave. They can't make mistakes and not look like hypocrites, because they're so holier-than-thou to start with. The liberal side can, because they're not the ones who tell everyone else how to live.

It wasn't "the liberals" who told me I was going to hell for listening to "druggie music" like Power 94.5. So when someone representing the liberal side has a personal matter, you can't say they ever claimed to be perfect.

Hypocrisy is at least as bad the primary offense. If there's no hypocrisy to call someone out on, then you can't call them out.

  8. If I read Edwards's statement correctly, the incident happened before his wife's cancer returned.

Like I said, Edwards wasn't going around censoring music and telling everyone else they were going to hell.

  9. Bandit, I think you correct..but why not have high expectations of a mayor (in this case Detroit)??

I think we have a RIGHT to high expectations of our elected officials...If we don't, then why????

  11. John Edwards wasn't the one who called me a druggie and told me I was going to hell. It was the conservatives who did that.

So it is the conservatives (not John Edwards) who are being hypocrites.

As I said above, hypocrisy is at least as offensive as anything Edwards did.

  12. What conservative public official called you a druggie and told you you were going to hell?

  13. I didn't say it was a public official.

  14. Some yahoo calls you a druggie and you go on life-long vendetta against all conservative public officials? How do you even know this clown was a Republican, did you check his voter registration?

You're right to call out crooks in office and those seeking office. Trouble is you give free passes to Democrats despite claiming you're no longer a Democrat.

  15. Yeah, calling someone a 'druggie' for listening to rock music sounds like a real liberal to me.. [/sarcasm]

  16. Scheff, Bandit is not going to blog about Edwards, because it is fucking boring. He wants people to read this blog, you know.

I think we have also established that the affair wasn't going on while his wife was being treated for cancer...it ended in 2006.

  17. Tim blogs about small-time GOP officials in one-stop-light towns getting caught with their pants down. Obviously he doesn't find these scandals boring.

By the way, Edwards is who Tim wanted to win the nomination.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Maybe that's because the "women" who the "small time GOP officials" screw are not yet "women". The GOP seems to like their "women" very young.

At least the woman in the Edwards case is 42.

  19. Many times they are not even 'girls'..they are just as likely to be sheep or horses..

  20. If Tim blogged every time someone in the NFL was in trouble for some lewd sex charge his blog would no longer be a political blog but a sports news blog.

Why would he blog about someones infidelity? That's someones personal life and doesn't at all affect how one does a political job. (even though Edwards doesn't even hold a elected position.) Fact is that's a private matter in someones life and the news needs to butt out of it.

Just because someones in the media doesn't mean they're going to be any less likely to cheat on their spouse than the rest of America. And we all know how cheat happy they are.
