Thousands flee to Mexico for health care

USA Today reported this month that tens of thousands of people are fleeing the U.S. and moving to Mexico just to receive health care.

Many of them are retirees who don't qualify for Medicare. They've signed up for Mexico's Social Security system, which charges no more than $250 a year for health care for "legal foreigners" and provides nearly 2,000 clinics and hospitals nationwide.

The rightist propaganda machine claims the U.S. health care system is so great that foreigners are flocking to the United States for treatment. But in reality, people have been trying to run away from U.S. health care as fast as they can.

One U.S. citizen said, "We're pretty much in Mexico now because we can't afford health care in the States." Another said that Mexico's system is "better than any health plan I've had in the States."

If Americans get sick, they better hope it's on a foreign vacation.

  1. I think I'd rather pay full price for major medical care than take my chances on whatever you get for $250 in Mexico.
