Where no Cocoa Krispies ad has gone before (Bubble Gum Weekend)

I've already described the travails of cereal manufacturers including free bubble gum in their cereal.

Just one of many problems is that cereal is often purchased by families who won't "allow" their kids to chew bubble gum, so the gum is hidden for years and is found only when it is stale.

That's probably why you never see gum in cereal anymore. It's so rare now that when someone posts an old cereal commercial with a gum offer on YouTube, people usually make obvious comments like, "They have a free bubble gum offer."

The taboo against bubble gum sure didn't stop Cocoa Krispies from briefly including an unusual flavor of gum, as seen in this ad that appears to be from the '80s or '90s:

It appears to be called Milkshake gum. I don't remember this brand at all.

People bubble in the ad, but the commersh also evokes a different, even more hilarious kind of bubbling - namely, the act of blowing bubbles in a beverage through a straw. You know, that thing your teachers in junior high school always confiscated your chocolate milk for.

Blowing bubbles in drinks is a great way for people to protest as well as to celebrate. I employed this gimmick as a protest following the infamous Par King episode - and as a celebration of many successful demonstrations against the Kids Helping Kids cult.

To success! Blublublub...
