School strip-searches students (sigh)

How many times has this same story played itself out?

A school accuses a student or group of students of stealing money - or sometimes possessing drugs, but usually stealing money. So the school strip-searches the students. The contraband or stolen items are not found. Probably because the students were innocent all along!

Well, it's happened again.

This time it was at Atlantic High School in Atlantic, Iowa.

A couple weeks ago, the school forced 5 teenage girls to disrobe. One was forced to take off all her clothes (including underwear), not just her outer garments. The school accused them of stealing $100 from a classmate. But the search did not yield any missing money.

What's particularly astonishing about the school's fascism is that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled just a few months ago that school strip searches like this are illegal. That case involved a strip search that was almost precisely like the one in this story.

Furthermore, Iowa reportedly has laws that specifically forbid school strip searches.

Yet school officials say the search is permitted under school rules. Who cares if it's permitted under school rules? Let's weigh who has more authority: Atlantic High School versus the U.S. Supreme Court. Gee, I wonder.

I can almost guarantee there's going to be a lawsuit over this.
