Hawaii won't fund congressional election

Hawaii has the money to illegally force teachers to take a drug test, but it doesn't have the money for a required congressional election?

Democratic Rep. Neil Abercrombie is resigning his congressional seat to run for governor. Under the U.S. Constitution, an election to fill this seat is mandatory.

But the administration of right-wing Gov. Linda Lingle is crying poverty, saying the state doesn't have the money for this required election. So there won't be one.

As a result, that congressional seat will be vacant for almost a year. Thus, 600,000 Honolulu residents will be deprived of representation in the House.

Of course, we all know the real reason Lingle won't fund the election. It's because everyone knows the Democrats are going to win that seat again, and the Republicans obviously don't want that. The Lingle administration doesn't care what the Constitution says about the election being mandatory - just like how she didn't care what it said about illegal searches (which the drug tests are).

Constitutional law doesn't matter to the Republicans. Not one bit.

By not having a congressperson, at least folks in Honolulu now know what we feel like. We don't have a congressperson either. Instead we have Geoff Davis.
