Sore loser loses again

Usually November is the month where you hear the name Louis Jenkins the most. That's because it's the month that usually has an election for him to lose, which always prompts him to cry that the big, mean libs rigged the election.

But we should be prepared for some more waterworks from this conservative Louisiana Republican in the very near future, because yesterday he lost a special election to fill a Baton Rouge area congressional seat. In the process, Congress got more Democratic, because the seat filled by his Democratic opponent had been held by right-wing extremist Richard Baker, a Republican. Baker got a Conservative Fool Of The Day entry when he gloated about Hurricane Katrina. Baker's quote was, "We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did."

To me, Louis Jenkins - who's as much of an extremist as Richard Baker is - has long symbolized GOP bad sportsmanship. After losing the Senate election in 1996, Jenkins threw an absolute, complete, utter, total, king-sized conniption fit.

He claimed thousands of "phantom votes" were cast - but provided no proof. He claimed other votes were cast by people who gave addresses that were in abandoned housing projects. Again, no proof. He then claimed folks were paid to go to more than one precinct to cast multiple votes. Once again, no proof. Even if he had proof of all these things, there's still no proof the bogus votes helped his opponent.

Jenkins took his case to the Senate to try to get them to hold a new election to overturn the one he lost. The Senate squandered 10 months investigating his unfounded vote fraud allegations.

What a big baby!

In yesterday's contest, Jenkins was defeated by Democrat Don Cazayoux. I know that these days the Democrats and the Republicans are only as different as Tweedledum and Tweedledumber, but at least Cazayoux wants a pullout from the failed Iraq War.

In the meantime, what does the National Republican Congressional Committee say about Jenkins's latest electoral loss? In a press release, the NRCC says, "This should come as a warning shot to Democrats." Um, a Democrat won, you morons.
