Mail spying program revealed

Quick show of hands: Who's surprised by this?

Nobody??? Well, I'm not either.

Not happy with just a warrantless phone spying program, the government does the same with mail - and has been for years, according to FOIA inquiries filed by USA Today. Like Bush's phone tapping program, the mail surveillance has also been carried out without bothering to get warrants first.

Since 1998 the postal service has approved over 10,000 law enforcement requests to keep tabs on customers' mail.

Why isn't this a front page headline in every paper in America?

After the Republicans in Congress gave the postal service the power to raise stamp prices every year without a hearing (and not doing anything about the cost to mail a letter subsidizing junk mail), and with the postal service participating in a warrantless surveillance program, I know I'm going to be using the mail less.

This isn't just Bush's fault (for a change). It's probably gone on since Reagan, but nobody's done anything about it.

  1. And liberals want to give the government MORE control? Just imagine all the things they'll be able to do to us once they control health care.
