Air America charges to the right with Rhodes suspension

Air America Radio used to be considered a bright beacon of hope surrounded by a sea of rightist inanity. (We briefly had an affiliate here, but the station was owned by Clear Channel, which intentionally bungled it just so they could trot it out as "proof" that Air America wasn't viable here.) But now the radio network appears to be in the process of being overcome by DLC beedledickery.

A few weeks ago, legendary Air America talk show host Randi Rhodes delivered what was intended to be a comedic performance at an event sponsored by the network's San Francisco affiliate. (The San Francisco affiliate is also owned by Clear Channel, so I wonder if they'll try to set it up for trouble there too like they did in Cincinnati.) Rhodes made a joke about Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro, regarding the pointless attacks leveled by Ferraro and Clinton against Barack Obama. Rhodes's words were well-received by the audience, which cheered thunderously. She later received mail from her show's sponsors and others praising her for her performance.

A couple weeks later, Air America big shots finally reacted. (At this rate, the next thing you know they'll take a stand on the Stamp Act of 1765.) Although Rhodes's statement was not delivered over the air and did not generate controversy, Air America suspended Rhodes from her radio show indefinitely.

Randi Rhodes feels that this suspension is a breach of contract by Err America. The network also refuses to disclose how long the suspension will be or if it is permanent, because it wants to "gauge public reaction." Now that's gumption - not! I think Air America is using Rhodes's remarks just as an excuse to get her off the air because she supports Obama. Air America's current CEO is a big Clinton backer, and I wouldn't exactly call Clinton a progressive choice.

Sounds like somebody at Air America has been guzzling too much of the DLC Hi-C.
