Kentucky enacts anti-bullying bill (finally)

Finally! It's about time we got this bill past the Republican Taliban, isn't it?

Today, Kentucky's Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear signed House Bill 91 into law. This legislation, sponsored by Democratic Rep. Mike Cherry, says the state's public schools must have firm policies in place to combat school harassment. It also cracks down on cyberharassment among the state's young people.

Notice that it wasn't a Republican who introduced or signed this bill. In fact, the GOP scuttled the bill in previous sessions. (No surprise.)

While this law is an improvement over the deliberate bully-coddling that's existed for years, hopefully lawmakers in the next session will take it further by making expulsion of harassers mandatory and revoking the driver's licenses of offenders.
