Unions threatened with violence at town hall meetings

According to a famous quote, when fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag.

How true that is. The recent disruptions by right-wingers at congressional town hall meetings is no different from what the brownshirts did: Both involve the use of violence to stifle opinions at public meetings.

And the threats of violence are escalating.

This weekend, labor union officials have been receiving a deluge of threats that warn of violence if they dare to counter the brownshirts.

"I will be going to a local town hall this weekend, all you union members BEWARE!" said one e-mail yesterday. "We will be waiting for you. better make sure you have arrangements with your local ER. today is the day when the goon meets the gun. see you there."

These terroristic threats have been increasing lately, but they're not new. This language has been regularly employed by thugs on the right for years - at least since the Internet became popular. Our question is why so little is being done to prosecute them.

Indeed, there has been actual violence at the town halls. In addition to a report of an assault on a member of Congress, right-wing operatives started a scuffle at a town hall outside St. Louis - injuring several people. That altercation is seen near the end of this clip:

Gonna deny it, conservos? All I have to say is: Smile. You're on 'Candid Camera'.

How much longer before they gain interest in book burning?
