Nazis vandalize congressman's office

Still don't think the other side is getting stupider?

In Smyrna, Georgia, the office of Democratic U.S. Rep. David Scott has found itself the target of right-wing vandalism.

Today, it was discovered that someone had spraypainted a gigantic Nazi swastika on a large sign outside the office. The swastika is 4 feet wide.

Scott rose to prominence recently when his town hall meeting was crashed by right-wing operatives complaining about health care reform. This despite the fact that the event was supposed to be about a road project, not health care.

The congressman has also received racist hate mail over the past few days.

Ironically, Smyrna was the same town where I sent a letter to city leaders in the early 2000s complaining about a draconian ordinance that made it almost impossible even to buy art supplies such as markers. The purported goal of this ordinance was to stop graffiti vandals, but I knew that was a Big Lie. If that was the aim of this law, a hell of a lot of good it did, huh?

Swastika vandalism isn't completely new for the modern American right wing. I went to NKU in the '90s, so I know. But now it has expanded to a much more prominent venue than before.

The bigger issue is that this is pretty much all the other side has left. Most self-described conservatives who may have a solid head on their shoulders are abandoning movement conservatism in droves, because it's becoming clear that it's built almost entirely on sore loser tantrums.
