A Peace Bike memory

After being introduced to the Peace Bike, you probably want to be regaled with more of the work the hulking velocipede and I have done together.

So peep this:

That's the Peace Bike in Covington, Kentucky, in July 2006. I had forgotten I had taken this photo, but here it is defying the Allowed Cloud that is the city of Covington (a town known for the Bush rally in 2000 that went awry). If you can't see the photo at full-size by clicking on it, it's at:

You'll notice the Peace Bike was engaging in a protest of sorts. As you can see from the sign, the city tried to bar "bicyles" (sic) from a public space, and the Peace Bike opted to take 'em up on it.

Ironically, this space also features a war memorial. The memorial commemorates those who died for America's freedom, but the city tries to take away our freedom to use the best means of travel we have. Even more ironically, a device called the Peace Bike was showing more respect for the troops than the city was when it attempted to deny us this liberty. (This picture was also around the time the city bulldozed an encampment inhabited in part by homeless veterans.)

If you live anywhere near Covington, and you happen to stop by this public space, remember those who served - even as we all work for peace.
